The Independent Party of Oregon is asking its members to participate in a party-administered presidential primary. Names on the ballot will be Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, and “None of the Above.” This primary is binding.
The party also had a government-administered presidential primary in May, but the party is not using those results.
Will the winner appear on the November ballot even if they’re also nominated by another party?
Yes, since Oregon allows fusion.
I thought they were part of an effort to join a coalition of independent state parties to nominate their own candidate???
Guess that went out the window in a hurry.
It’s interesting that they chose to NOT include the only other Presidential candidate expected to be on enough states for a theoretical majority (270+) of the Electoral College, Darrell Castle of the Constitution party!
Deemer- Castle will NOT be on enough states to reach the 270 electoral vote threshold; in fact he’ll be lucky to be on the ballot in as many states as Goode was in 2012.
In fact he’ll be further lucky if the situation in the Idaho CP doesn’t spill over into other state parties.
Btw, CASTLE DOES NOT HAVE BALLOT ACCESS IN OREGON!
Here is a question for Richard or for anyone who knows the answer and would like to comment: If Senator Bernie Sanders wins this primary election in Oregon but is not victorious at the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia (he still has a chance, I believe); will the Senator be allowed to remove his name from the November General Election Ballot, if he desires to do so?
