So they’re preparing for Debate-a-Geddon, then? (But only so much, so far — considering the possibility of three seats, not four or more.)
Alternatively, they may be setting the stage for rejecting Johnson, as in: “We have obviously handled the debates fairly. We were even prepared to let him on stage if only he had gotten to 15%.”
Sort of related: I read an article that says Romney and the Bushes are going to endorse Johnson at a joint press conference later this month. What are the odds?
They should let Gary Johnson and Jill Stein participate in the debates .Their are many people who don’t even know these two are also running for the presidency .I support Advertisement on all three of the major networks and stations on cable and satellite .Also radio advertising.
I expect the Johnson campaign to start spending as much money as it can on tv advertising and the like near the end of august in an attempt to bolster its polling to qualify for the debates.
I think so, too, Will Fenwick. The Stein campaign is already doing that. They’ve bought around $650,000 worth of ads on MSNBC and a couple of other stations.
Shouldn’t it be spelled “Lectern”?
I predict Hillary won’t participate in the debates. She has been observed having seizures lately and is exhibiting symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. Four podiums for: Trump, Johnson, Stein, and Darrell Castle.
One thing I feel confident about … the Commission on Presidential Debates is going to strictly enforce their 15% polling average requirement in order to get into the debates. And I haven’t seen any mainstream polls recently that had Gary Johnson at 15% or above. If Johnson’s average on the day they calculate the averages is 14%, he’s not going to be on stage.
Maybe they’ll borrow a page from the DNC playbook (as used against Lawrence Lessig) and change the rules on when a candidate has to hit that 15% figure to keep the alternatives out.
