The Asian American Journalist Association, and Asian & Pacific Islander Vote, jointly sponsored a presidential election forum on Friday, August 12. It was held at Caesar’s Palace, and lasted three and one-half hours. Gary Johnson spoke first, followed by Jill Stein. Then Bill Clinton spoke on behalf of Hillary Clinton, and Sean Reyes spoke for Donald Trump. Reyes is Attorney General of Utah. See this story.
Trump campaign launches drive to recruit ‘election observers’
Richard:
Do you know how and/or when this group chose to send out
invitations for these candidates and neglected to include
the Constitution Party’s Darrell Castle?
I guess that they only chose Johnson and Stein because those are the only two who are already on states containing a majority of the electoral vote.
Bill Clinton is not running for office he should not be allowed on stage.
They probably invited the candidates to either come themselves or send surrogates (excuse me, “representatives”).
And I understand the appeal of the rationale for 270 (half of 538 + 1) as the threshold for eligibility — but it’s still stricter than it needs to be. If your party’s ticket is eligible to win at least 1/4 of the Electoral College votes, that shows the ticket can win a spot in the top three and make it to the House of Representatives. (The quick math: if you win 1/4 of the EC votes — 135 rounded up — there’s no way any more than two tickets can be ahead of you, or even tied with you. They’d have to have at least 270 more EC votes, and that would only leave 538 – (135 + 270) = 538 – 405 = 133 for everybody else.) Maybe this inconvenient-for-the-CPD truth will be acknowledged if more than two tickets win EC votes this year.
