On August 13, the Minnesota Independence Party, which is not ballot-qualified, nominated Evan McMullin for President. Here is a copy of his petition, which must be printed out on legal-size paper. It is due August 23 and needs 2,000 signatures. Thanks to American Third Party Report for this news.
Thanks as always, Richard. Can you summarize how McMullin is doing so far overall? How close is he to the CPD’s “270 or bust” rule?
He’s pretty far off at this point, he only has ballot access confirmed so far in Arkansas and Colorado if I remember correctly. At this point, I imagine the only way he will reach 270 is to get the petitioning deadlines of many states thrown out via lawsuit. I think De La Fuente of the American Delta/Reform Parties and Darryl Castle of the Constitution party are the only other candidates who can feasibly achieve 270 ballot access at this point.
The only way McMullin could mathematically reach 270 is if he gets nominations of parties in states that have already passed. He could get the nomination of the South Carolina Independence Party and the Florida Independence Party.
He’s not supposing to win, he’s expecting/hoping to upset the electorate for Hilary and Trump and send it to the house. I would love to put up a sign in my yard in support of Evan McMullin. All I can say is, send it to the house, vote for Evan McMullin!
Eata McMuffin would have to win some electoral votes to have any chance of sending it to the House, which ain’t agonna happen. Gary Johnson is the only alternative candidate with anything resembling a chance to be accepted to the Electoral College. However, McMuffin drawing off GOP votes from Trump in Utah could conceivably help GJ win that state.
