On Monday, Labor Day, Connecticut Secretary of State employees determined that the Libertarian presidential petition has enough valid signatures. The petition did not need to list anyone for U.S. Senate, because the Libertarian Party is already ballot-qualified for that office. See this story. The office still hasn’t finished checking the presidential petition of independent Rocky De La Fuente.
Yay! Now to hope everything works out in KY and RI!
There shouldn’t be any problem in RI. The 1000 signature requirement is reasonable, and the LP has made it there before. It’s just a drawn out process because, like all the other New England states, the signatures have to be pre-certified by each city and town.
As for Kentucky, I don’t have a clue what the problem is there.
Kentucky requires 5,000 valid signatures which is a hefty amount for a state of that population. The deadline is September 9th which, along with three other states, is the latest petitioning deadline in 2016. The petition drive in Kentucky has apparently gone well but they are using the available time to insure that they have a challenge proof submission.
Here is information I found regarding the LP petition drive in Rhode Island. I’m not familiar enough with their process to know whether this is on schedule to get Johnson on the Rhode Island ballot or not.
