North Dakota Secretary of State Receives Three Presidential Petitions

The North Dakota petition deadline for independent candidates is Tuesday, September 6. Three presidential petitions were submitted: Darrell Castle, Rocky De La Fuente, and Jill Stein. Evan McMullin decided not to petition in North Dakota.

North Dakota permits labels for candidates who use the independent presidential procedure, so Stein will be on the ballot as “Green”, and Castle on as “Constitution.”

The three qualified parties in North Dakota are Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican.

  1. No one has failed in Rhode Island. The deadline is Friday, September 9. Perhaps the Constitution Party has given up in Rhode Island, but that seems surprising, because one paid person could get it done between now and the deadline. The Constitution Party filed to take out papers in Rhode Island.

  2. RE the CP: Based on the fact that the Kentucky deadline isn’t until this Friday and they have had that state listed in orange as write-in pending for a number of weeks, I would say they had given up long ago. Well, that and poor resource management. The CP expended funds to get on in South Dakota (2775 signatures for only 3 EVs), when they could have put those resources into successfully completing either Virginia (13 EVs), or Ohio (18 EVs).

  3. Richard, I think the CP’s resources are very VERY limited in Rhode Island and pretty much the whole northeast. No question now that they will be on in less states then they were in 2012.

  4. Jeff Becker – I don’t think that, realistically, resource management ought to consider electoral votes. Rather, it should consider the possibility of ballot access retention to save money for future years.

  5. Jim – Yes, I agree. Perhaps a future project for Richard to make a chart of what that entails for each state.

  6. @Chris Powell: Yes, it does — thank you!

@Cody Quirk: According to that link, I’d say so; the three qualified parties and the three petitions Richard posted about are all approved and the candidates are on the ballot. (Mind you, the link only showed Presidential candidates, not VP; I don’t know about any stand-ins/etc.)

  7. I hope Gary Johnson wins North Dakota since he was born there. He was born in Minot .
