Moderate Party, Which is Ballot-Qualified with its Own Primary in Rhode Island, Has No Nominees This Year

The Moderate Party is Rhode Island’s only ballot-qualified party, other than the Democratic and Republican Parties. However, it has no nominees for any public office this year. The only minor party candidates on the ballot for Congress or state office in Rhode Island this year are three Libertarians for state legislature.

The Moderate Party will continue to be ballot-qualified for 2018, however. It easily met the vote test in 2014, when Bob Healey, its gubernatorial nominee, polled 21.4% of the vote. That extended the party’s qualified status through November 2018.

  1. This is the party that the Reform Party, Independence Party of Minnesota, Unity Party, Modern-Whig Party, and Veterans Party need to all merge with; and take the Moderate Party name. It’s a perfect fit for their platforms, and people immediately get the idea of a “Moderate Party”.

This is the core problem with most third-parties; fragmentation. You have dozens of nearly identical parties that are splitting their own efforts; it’s absolutely ridiculous. Those all need to merge. And you need the Conservative Party, Christian Liberty Party, Christian Party, Alaska Independence Party, Constitution Party, and Conservative Party of New York all to merge into a National Conservative Party.

This would drastically improve their chances of getting elected. And as a result have a well-formed effort to make their platforms national and part of the conversation.
