Eleventh Circuit Hears Georgia Ballot Access Case

On January 26, the Eleventh Circuit heard Green Party of Georgia v Kemp, 16-11689. The issue is the number of signatures for president, for independent candidates and the nominees of unqualified parties. The hearing went well. The U.S. District Court last year had struck down the requirement, and the judges of the Eleventh Circuit seemed to indicate by their questions and statements that they are not inclined to reverse the lower court ruling. The Eleventh Circuit panel consisted of Judge Charles R. Wilson, a Clinton appointee; Judge Jill A. Pryor, an Obama appointee; and Judge Harvey Bartle III, a visiting U.S. District Court Judge from Pennsylvania and a Bush Sr. appointee.
