Colorado Legislative Committee Kills National Popular Vote Plan Bill by 3-2

On February 15, the Colorado Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee tabled SB 17-99 by a vote of 3-2. This is the national popular vote plan bill. The vote was party-line: all three Republican voted against the bill, and both Democrats voted for it.

  1. Abolishing the Electoral College is a colossally dumb idea. The NPV plan, which has that same effect, may be even more colossally dumb. Glad to see that this happend.

I do think the Electoral College needs to be reformed, particularly how states award their electors. I believe that unless a candidate gets an outright majority of the votes in a state, the electors should be allocated proportionately.

  2. Instant Runoff or Condorcet voting for Presidential Electors would have a much more substantial impact for swing states like Colorado.
