Connecticut House Committee Passes National Popular Vote Bill

On March 24, the Connecticut House Government Administration & Elections Committee passed HB 5434. This is the National Popular Vote bill. The vote was 9-8.

  1. Just need clarification on if/when this process would become law across the nation. Also, if it passes, that means every Presidential Electoral win will by shutout?

  2. When enough states equal 270 Electoral Votes. The current 10 states and D.C. equals 165 votes. Those states that pass the bill would use the winner of the Popular Vote to send their electors to the Electoral College voting for that winner.

  3. MHD, is it part of the requirement of the NPV that it does not go into effect until it hits 270? With so few people paying attention in general, I can see a huge outcry when a state votes 60%-40% for Candidate A, only to see Candidate B get the electoral votes for that state. At that point, millions more will pay attention.
