U.S. District Judge William Zloch will hold oral arguments in Wilding v Democratic National Committee Services, s.d. Florida, 0:16cv-61511, on Tuesday, April 25, at 1:30 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale. This is the case filed on June 28, 2016, by some supporters of Bernie Sanders. They complain that the Democratic national committee broke its own neutrality rules during the 2016 contest for the Democratic presidential nomination. The party is trying to persuade the judge that the plaintiffs lack standing.
The standing issue probably will be tough, especially since Bernie himself passed on the chance to sue the Iowa DP, and Iowa being a closed caucus state.
@SocraticGadfly, Iowa has a pretty open caucus system. You have to declare your party affiliation before participating in the caucus, but you can declare it that same night and then switch back immediately after the caucus if you want. Unlike in some states such as New York, party affiliation or lack thereof in Iowa should not have been an issue for anyone wanting to caucus.
What is this lawsuit hoping to get? Monetary damages? Court-ordered changes to the system?
Primaries are FOR the parties to pic THEIR nominee, not some free for all where people who are not members of the party get to pick who the nominee is.
