Only Two States Have Never Elected Anyone to the Legislature Who Wasn’t a Democratic or Republican Nominee

Arizona and Hawaii are the only two states in which no one has ever been elected to a state legislature who wasn’t either a Republican or a Democratic nominee. The December 1 2017 print Ballot Access News will have a chart listing the last time anyone who wasn’t a Democratic or Republican nominee was elected to each state’s legislature.

  1. Well this kind of makes sense when you remember those were the 48th and 50th states to join the union, I’m sure a lot of states had people in their legislatures when the parties were changing around in the middle part of the 1800s
