On January 18, the Maryland Board of Elections determined that the Bread and Roses Party has enough valid signatures. It will be a qualified party in 2020 and 2022. Most of its signatures were collected in 2018. The party’s founder, Jerome Segal, wanted to run for U.S. Senate in 2018, but the petition wasn’t completed in time for the 2018 election, and also Segal was ineligible to be his party’s nominee because he had run in the Democratic primary for the same office in 2018. Thanks to Steve Rossignol for this news.
Next up, the Bread and Circuses party. Er, uh, well nevermind. We already have that. GO CHIEFS!!
FYI, Here is the section of Maryland election law (ยง 4-102) pertaining to the creation of a new party: https://law.justia.com/codes/maryland/2005/gel/4-102.html
Isn’t there a song with that title?
It would be nice to know generally and specifically why Bread & Roses felt the need to obtain ballot access. What have the Rs/ Ds done, that is so pitiful, that has caused B & R to feel the need to obtain ballot access. I know how much work ballot access is, its not simply available upon request.
