A few news stories describe the hearing in the Washington State Supreme Court yesterday on whether presidential electors have freedom to vote for any qualified person, but the stories say nothing about how the justices reacted to the arguments. Here is one story.
Richard, In how many states are the Presidential Electors’ names still listed on the ballot. I can tell you that last time I looked at the code here in West Virginia, their names were PROHIBITED from appearing on the ballot. Second question is how many other states are like this?
How many of your readers/subscribers think that by voting for electors directly rather than by unidentified slates attached to a party presidential nominee would be the way to solve this problem?
Thank you.
Four states still list the electors on the ballot. They are all small population except for Arizona. Oklahoma has a law that says the State Board of elections decides whether to put them on or leave them off. That law was in effect for the first time in 2016. With only 3 sets of elector candidates, the Board put the names of the electors on. Presumably if there had been more they might have taken them off.
How many bribes / death threats for New Age Prez Electors ???
The EC is a DARK AGE piece of OLIGARCH statist junk — only the *elite* can pick a Prez.
— related to olde USA Senator rot before 17 Amdt – gerrymander oligarch elites in States picking USA Senators.
—
Uniform definition of Elector-Voter in ALL of the USA
NONPARTISAN AppV for exec/judic offices – pending Condorcet.
Another statutory/compact FIX –
RATIO math for 12 AMDT Prez electors —
Total State-DC votes / Number of Prez Electors = RATIO for 1 Prez Elector.
Surplus votes down, Loser votes up — via pre-election Prez candidate rank order lists of other candidates.
IE – same as for PR legis bodies.
ALL States-DC to get *some* TV attack ads ???
