On December 2, the Georgia Republican Party said Donald Trump is the only presidential candidate who will be on its presidential primary ballot. The state law lets the party decide. The party specifically said it had considered listing Bill Weld, Rocky De La Fuente, and Joe Walsh, but it had decided not to include them.
De La Fuente is already suing over the Georgia presidential primary system, and this decision merely guarantees that he has standing.
It is peculiar that the Georgia Republican Party made this decision, given that Florida has a virtually identical law, and the Florida Republican Party put all four Republicans on its ballot.
Republican Party, to the extent it has a primary, is governed by the Due Process Clause. See Smith v. Allwright. Consequently, it does not appear that it could arbitrarily select Trump as sole candidate since arbitrary state action violates Due Process.
@MB,
Or does “ex rel LaFollette” apply?
States should switch to direct primaries for making presidential nominations.
Not at all surprised; Voting LP next year.

ah, the party of inclusion and freedom…..
What is funny about this is that it is not as though any of these other candidates had any real chance of winning anyway. They should put them on the ballot, and let Trump crush them all. Then they could say they were fair, and their preferred candidate would still win.
Minnesota frquently has more then one nominee in primary races.
Andy,
You are right, but they don’t think that way. Their instinct is to just crush any ‘independent’ force within the party. What is ironic is the type of people making these calls were the GOP officials most against Trump in 2016.
What I was told is the party rules are they don’t put a candidate on the POTUS primary ballot unless a certain amount of Georgians have donated to that campaign
The top private party hacks are even more robotic than the partisan robot public exec/judic hacs.
NOOO primaries.
