On December 17, West Virginia Delegate S. Marshall Wilson announced that he has changed his registration from Republican to independent. He was first elected to the legislature in 2016. In 2018 he was re-elected with no general election opponent. He did not say if he will run for re-election in 2020.
No one who was not a Democratic or Republican nominee has been elected to the West Virginia legislature since 1906, when a Prohibition Party nominee was elected. Thanks to Jeff Becker for the news about Wilson. Thanks to the commenters who pointed out that the legislature had another independent a few years ago, although, like Wilson, he wasn’t elected as an independent.
There was another independent in the state legislature named Rupie Phillips, before he changed his regristration to Republican
You are correct, Michael. Rupie went from Democrat to Independent (2017) and then to Republican (2018) to run for congress last year where he finished second with 19.53% to Carol Miller’s 23.81% in the 7-way WVGOP 3rd congressional district primary. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupie_Phillips

Vote for Republican Raymond V Davis III for WV House of Delegates District 36 in 2020.
@Raymond – Republican? That’s a big move from being in the Mountain Party. You ran as their delegate candidate in the 5th district back in 2012. Well OK then.
Jeff Becker- he’s been spamming all sorts of boards including IPR. He must have a campaign budget of $1.50!
if he runs again, what’s the ballot access rules like?
Hmmm. A gerrymander monster has found BAN ???
1618-2019 — mere 401 years of VA ANTI-Democracy minority rule gerrymanders.
Edward, Marshall ran unopposed in the 60th district last year and collected a grand total of 5,152 votes. Thus he would need 52 valid petition signatures (due August 1) to run as an independent for the same office next year. In 2014, I ran one district over from him in the 59th. Signature collection is not a problem in the Mountain State.
@ Demo – gerrymander? As anyone can clearly see from the state legislative map, the man obviously moved. Go check your meds. http://www.wvlegislature.gov/images/house/districts/Map.png
WV — State formed by Union Army FORCE in 1861-1863 — to secure railroad lines to west.
Rump/Fraud Union Army legislature in N. VA [perhaps 10 pct of VA] agreed to divide VA.
Lincoln HACKS in Congress approved the Rump/Fraud machination in 1863.
SCOTUS HACKS approved scheme after the Civil War — VA v W VA op.
1787 Constitution overthrown — some more.
Not only check your meds, but double your dose.
ALL gerrymanders in ALL 50 States —
too many math/polisci/con law morons to count on this list.
Here ya go, Demo. Gerrymandering civics from the Governator: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2EnuHsRJd4&fbclid=IwAR2cBHrFrE0bo3A2oiyn87O3Y8MVNOZvGPyxyTG4HafmUA25NWJsrXJ9y7M

UNEQUAL ballot access laws + gerrymanders = the ANTI-democracy monarchs/oligarchs in CONTROL in the USA — with their rotted counterparts in many other regimes — UK, Canada, India, etc.
T-H-E vast conspiracy of monarchs/oligarchs.
