On January 3, filing closed for Illinois presidential primaries. Only three Republicans will appear on the Republican ballot: President Donald Trump, Rocky De La Fuente, and John Schiess (who lives in Wisconsin).
Thirteen Democrats will appear: Michael Bennet, Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, John Delaney, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Deval Patrick, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren, and Andrew Yang. Presidential candidates need 3,000 signatures. Here is a link to the State Board of Elections list.
What kind of campaign is Joe Walsh running that he didn’t get on the ballot in his own state? No Bill Weld either?
I am surprised that Rocky made it. I heard he was strughling to get petition signatures.
I have never heard of John Schiess.
I wonder what happened to Bill Weld. I can’t stand him, but I’m just curious anyway.
Illinois also has filing for delegate. Delegates are apportioned by the presidential vote, and vacancies can be filled, but it might not be a strongly identified supporter.
Sanders, Biden, and Warren appear to have almost complete slates. Biden and Sanders almost always filed as a bloc, suggesting they had trusted lawyers experienced in filing in Illinois. Warren delegates were sometimes filed separately. Perhaps they had to doublecheck paper work.
Buttigieg has slates in 12 of 18 CD’s. Klobuchar has slares 14 of 18 CD’s, all filed at the deadline. Where they filed, they had fairly complete slates, but not always 100%. Yang has slates in 17 CD’s, but often fewer than 100%, possibly indicating enthusiastic volunteers.
No other Democratic candidates bothered with delegates.
