On January 17, the Maryland Secretary of State announced which presidential primary candidates are discussed in the news media, and which will be on the presidential primary ballots automatically.
For the Republican ballot, he chose President Donald Trump and William Weld. See the list for both major parties here.
Candidates not chosen may still get on the ballot if they submit 3,200 signatures of party members by January 24. The petition must include 400 valid signatures from each of the eight U.S. House districts. Thanks to J. Bradley Jansen for the link.
One more void for vagueness rotted *system*.
They sure are not giving much time to collect those petition signatures. Ridiculous.
@Andy,
The announcement was on January 2, not January 17.
That still is not much time to gather those signatures, particularly since the weather is cold.
@Andy,
I think they can begin collecting signatures before then. Though if you were organized enough to be collecting signatures in November or December, you probably would be recognized, and the effort wasted. I suppose there is a possibility that a candidate expected to be recognized was left off the list and would have to petition in a short period of time.
