West Virginia Green Party Will Administer its Own Mail Ballot Presidential Primary — 23 Comments

  1. I have been suggesting the exact same thing to the Constitution Party of West Virginia for at least the past four months, but they refuse to do it. They only have 170 or so registered voters so the cost would be minimal. Such an action for them would be quite appropriate since there are now at least four valid candidates (Refer to national party website. FYI, Sheila “Samm” Tittle is now registered CP with the FEC and with over $100k to her campaign). Sad. Stick a fork in them. They’re done.

  2. How many NON-political groups survive with mail ballots for elections/choices ???

Oregon govt – ALL mail ballots for about 20 years.

  3. Any PURGE of the genius-MORONS in the Iowa Donkey Prez caucus fiasco-circus disaster ???

Who needs to see/hear the EVIL LIES/comments by Prez HACK candidates up close and personal

    — esp in the DEAD of Winter — which at least may kill off some of such hacks —

who have TOTAL elitist contempt for the masses of voters ???

  4. Again, thanks for pissing on this post, Dumbo. And three times no less. OK, you have certainly left your mark. Just stay away from my car tires.

  5. The point Mr. Becker was making was that a mail in caucus is better than no caucus or primary of any kind. His comparison of the WV Green Party actually having a mail in preference ballot, versus the WV Constitution Party refusing to do so, is relevant commentary…wholly unlike the cryptic (to the point of being dissociated) irrelevant posts by Demo Rep.

Over the past several years, Mr. Becker and I have conversed regarding the need for an honest caucus, of some kind. Something is better than nothing. So, I agree with Mr. Becker’s comments.

  6. I am glad to see that the Mountain Party is including the approximately 300 voters in West Virginia who are still, for some reason, registered just as Green Party (via the “Other Party” registration category). The Mountain Party’s January 31 voter registration totals are listed as 2314 on the Secretary of State’s website, so, depending on how many of their postal addresses are actually deliverable, it looks like a substantial ballot project of about 2600. Their timetable for this project seems very well thought out. Best of luck to them.

  7. Sorry – pre-skoool folks [to be stayed away from as much as possible] —

RW can not post at the speed of light yet – for new stuff.

  8. @Floyd – Looking at the Green Party’s candidate criteria, I commend them for their effort and think it is very reasonable: candidate questionnaire, party affiliation (state registration), presidential campaign website, FEC filing, fundraising, participation in primaries. I am not so keen on the “signatures of support” requirement (seems like it would be a logistics mess), but OK. As we both know, the Constitution party uses nominations by at least two state convention delegations instead. The CP should be using the Green Party’s work as a national template, IMO. Too bad their national “leadership” appears to be an abject failure in this regard (at least as evidenced by only displaying minimalistic information on only three of their seven FEC registered candidates on their website, and nothing about the upcoming convention). Do they even have a functioning national presidential committee? I doubt it. The Green Party also uses ballot lines as criteria which the CP should consider, especially with so many disaffiliated state parties (AIP, ID, OR, VA).

  9. Richard, You really should consider requiring verified registration with real names for posting on your site here. Even better, make subscription to your print newsletter a requirement.

  10. Does Demo Rep ever say anything intelligent or coherent here? Jeff and Floyd are actually discussing this intelligently.

The Constitution Party seems to be dying in more than just WV. The Greens have a little bit of momentum. The Dems nominating Clinton in 2016 helped that.

  11. How many zillion footnotes for ALL the efforts by ALL the minor parties since 1776 ???

  12. Indeed, Mr. Becker. But I would quibble. You stated: “only displaying minimalistic information on only three of their seven FEC registered candidates on their website.”

I cannot help but note that in the summer of 2015, CP-Idaho censored any reference whatsoever to two active campaigns then ongoing–Copeland and Myers. And only began after the matter was becoming more and more public due to CP-Idaho’s protests.

But keep in mind…the former benchmark WAS zero information. Progress being made? Well, I would count on it. But it is possible that the concept of mortality might finally be moving them away from their previous back room anointment, acclaimed by proxy methods. Eh?

  13. RE: “especially with so many disaffiliated state parties (AIP, ID, OR, VA).” Ah yes, Mr. Myers, I had forgotten about the Alaska disaffiliation. Make that AIP, AK, ID, OR, VA.

  14. @Mark, If you are referring to Don Blankenship, if the CP selects him as their candidate only because of his wealth and not because he is actually the best candidate, that would make them sellouts much like the Libertarian Party has unfortunately become. Examining their campaign websites, Don Blankenship has absolutely ZERO mention of either the Constitution or the Constitution Party on his. Charles Kraut and Samm Tittle both do. I would like to see Mr. Blankenship begin using his name recognition to help promote the very existence of the party to which he joined two years ago along with its very American principles.

  15. @Mark, It is entirely possible. Only a couple of state affiliates hold CP primaries to predetermine any delegates. And one of them, Idaho, is disaffiliated and probably will not be in attendance. The others are North Carolina and, of course, host state Missouri. Thus the vast majority of Constitution Party delegate votes are TOTALLY UP IN THE AIR and will be determined by the state delegations who present at the time based on candidate presentations and Q&A sessions. The end result will be heavily influenced by the individual candidate performances at that time. There are currently EIGHT (8) candidates who are FEC filed for the Constitution Party presidential contest: Don Blankenship (WV), Daniel Clyde Cummings (WY), Rachel Davis (CA), Don Grundmann (CA), Colt Hample (TN), Charles Kraut (VA), Sheila “Samm” Tittle (VA), and Arthur Van Houten (OH). Some are obviously stronger candidates than others (fundraising, campaign websites, primary participation), some may not show up, and others may jump in at the last minute. Recall that in both 2012 and 2016, Darrell Castle made last minute entries. 2016 candidate Scott Copeland and 2016 VP nominee Scott Bradley are other possibilities. Anything could happen!!

  16. Yeah, in theory, sure. But don’t tell me they would be that suicidal in the real world. That would be literally crazy. If that’s what you want you must be wishful thinking.

  17. Mark, as of the past four years, I am a registered Independent and don’t wish for anything for the CP. You know the old saying: “You can wish in one hand and ____ in the other.”

  18. Realistically they will nominate Blankenship at least if they don’t actually want to suicide as a party.

  19. The Constitution Party already sold out in 2012 when it nominated Virgil Goode for President. Goode obviously did not really care about the Constitution Party, or the Constitution, and was person of low character.

The Constitution Party had a chance to sell out in 2008 when Alan Keyes ran for their nomination, but they wisely rejected the more well known Keyes in favor of the more principled Chuck Baldwin.

2016 Constitution Party presidential candidate, Darrell Castle, was also good on principles.
