Petition to Qualify the Montana Green Party for the Ballot is Not Sponsored by the Party

The Montana Green Party is not on the ballot, and it would need 5,000 signatures by early March to gain party status. A petition to qualify the party is circulating, even though the party itself did not initiate it. See this news story.

Meanwhile, a U.S. District Court is considering whether the existing law is unconstitutional. The law requires an unequal number of signatures from at least one-third of all the state house districts. That case is Montana Green Party v Stapleton, 6:18cv-87. The news story does not mention the lawsuit.

The Green Party had been expecting to circulate a petition to place the party’s presidential nominee on the ballot. That petition also requires 5,000 signatures, but is not due until August. It allows a party label. That is the procedure the party used to get Jill Stein on the ballot in Montana in 2016.

  4. Today I purchased 2 General Admission tickets to the multi party debate in Chicago on March 4.
    However my campaign does not qualify as I have very little support. Not filed with FEC as I lack a Treasurer.
    I have no campaign manager. Tom Knapp was my campaign manager years ago briefly. But he bailed on me and PLAS.
    I need to go to Chicago in an rv, I have an rv. It is registered, insured; nearly ready to go.
    But I will be hard pressed to drive all that way with my disability; depression and fatigue.

  6. Note: Top Ten means the six most significant parties, which cover the entire political spectrum/bell curve, get on all ballots. They are Green 27%, Constitution 27%, democratic 17%, Republican 17%, Libertarian 13%, Reform x/variable %. plus four optional Independents.
    This should “level the playing field”.
    Otherwise either a democrat or republican will win.
    This is Duverger’s Law.

    If we could rely on Rocky to get the Reform party on all ballots, then the libs get on all and give the greens a boost, they can help the constitution get on all.

    I stopped when I realized it is not in place very much and difficult to get into place.
    Whereas Top Ten Plus PLAS makes use of the present available system that the dems and reps do.

  27. Censorship is something governments do. Forum moderation isn’t censorship. And it’s not hypocritical unless someone claims to never do it. I’ve never seen Richard make any such claim. Thus, if he has in fact decided to exercise some minimal level of forum moderation here it’s neither censorship nor hypocritical. What it in fact is…overdue, and a good start.

Although it seems like this would be coming from Republican allies, the Montana Green Party’s facebook post on this seems more like they are worried about this effort coming from Democrats than Republicans. They don’t outright say that. But it claims the signature gatherers are being rude and smearing the Green Party’s name and mission, as well as collecting information on the signers. It sounds like they think the signature gathering is just a cover to damage the Green party and later target its supporters for a major party campaign. That would help the Democrats more than the Republicans, especially if the signatures never actually get turned in.

    That seems far-fetched to me, but it fits with the conspiracy theories and paranoia that routinely comes from certain other commenters in this thread.

    The Montana Green’s facebook post on this also says that they are not “signature gathering for statewide efforts until likely the 2022 cycle. As of now, we have no house senate or state office candidates running for the 2020 election”

    So it seems like this might only help the Green Presidential candidate.

    Party activists may be getting Montana on the ballot for the Presidential election, outside the party. Or in behalf of the party. Or despite the party.
    I called for the party to endorse Top Ten Plus PLAS.

  38. Censorship is by governments only by definition. Moderation of fora is not censorship. You have no inherent right to free speech on private property, which this is. A forum owner or administrator has the same right to regulate speech on their property as you do in your own home. Anyone can set up an unmoderated forum any time they want. There are lots of places you can set one up, even at no monetary cost.

    I’ve never moderated this forum, nor have I asked management here to remove any particular comments.

    Milnes already has his own site. You need only click on his name to find it. It doesn’t get a lot of comments, which is why he’s here. Incidentally, it’s not unmoderated either.

  41. Do you practice “censorship” if you tell a guest in your own home or business that some type of speech is not welcome there? Of course not. Privately owned fora are no less private property than your own home or business. Censorship means the absolute denial of opinions being expressed at all, something only government have the power to do. You are not denied the right to express your views if you are kept from expressing them in a certain forum. You don’t have to uproot your family, leave your friends and look for a new job, much learn a different language and culture, to go to another internet forum or set up your own. You don’t have a right to be on other people’s property except under conditions they set. This is private property. The word censorship becomes meaningless if you apply it to having rules on private property.

  42. Hypocrisy was alluded to above. There was no hypocrisy on Richard Winger’s part, unless you can point to some place where he said there would be no forum moderation under any circumstances. However, there is in fact hypocrisy on Milnes’ part. He seems to take an absolute free speech position on other people’s property but doesn’t follow the same standard on his own.

    Does anyone know why? I suspect it had something to do with the Green party or some sort of investigation.
    I suspect ALL of my communications are monitored and interfered with in some way.
    And yes, I moderate comments at TPP. Because I have been subjected to extremely harassing comments, many of which I suspect came from paulie. Using various names and online persona.

  82. Then this issue came up at the Green party Annual National Meeting in July 2019 in Salem, MA.
    I wanted to go, paid for admission, room, board. But I wondered if another such operation might be planned.
    So I called my local police and University police explaining my plans and inviting them to search my rv as I left NJ and arrived in MA.
    Ultimately I decided to not go.
    Then I called the Boycott/Strike!
    Then the GP announced a special meeting in Camden, NJ, my hometown.
    I do not think that meeting took place.
    Now there is this meeting in Chicago.

    Interesting story. I was assaulted yesterday by a little old lady in a Walmart electric cart!
    At least that is what I think happened. And what I told the police.
    I was shopping in Walmart; my usual routine. My last stop is usually at the frozen food area-because the shorter time the frozen stuff is out of the freezer, the less it defrosts!
    All of a sudden I felt off balance. Something was happening; I had no idea. It felt like somebody or something was shoving me. Something strong and hard. I wobbled around for a second or two.. I was slammed into the frozen food glass door. I managed to squirm around and get my balance and bearings.
    I looked around. It was a middle aged lady in a Walmart cart! The cart had slammed into me.
    I said to myself WTF!
    She was with a middle aged tall guy who resembled John Bolton! Her son, husband, helper?
    I had seen them earlier shopping. They seemed like they were arguing somewhat.
    When I went in the frozen food isle they were there. I thought little of them.
    She said something loudly to the guy. A few seconds went by. She said are you all right. I said yes.
    Then I took their picture. Then I went to check out. Then to my car. I thought about it.
    What if I went into the glass and it cracked or broke? I’d get cut up pretty bad. Is that even possible? How strong is that glass and those doors>
    So I thought I’ll tell the fuzz and let them deal with it. Probably not much but who knows?
    So I told the cop. He started by saying he would take a report but if he checks it out and there was no incident, he could file a charge! I said I know, filing a false report. I said ok. He said ok.
    Was it deliberate? If so, how ingenious! It is so incontestably an accident! How could it even be proven deliberate?
    This is how covert operations are done. You are left with your face hanging out and a lot of questions and few answers.
    If you are lucky. If you are not lucky, you are left on Walmart’s floor in a pool of blood.
