The Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale has published a poll for the March Illinois presidential primary. The pollsters asked Republican voters whom they intend to vote for, but they only asked respondents about President Donald Trump and Bill Weld. This is very peculiar, because the only two candidates on the ballot in the Republican Illinois primary are Trump and Rocky De La Fuente. Here is the poll. Scroll down to page nine. The results are Trump 89%, Bill Weld 4%, “someone else” 2%, don’t know 5%.
Illinois does permit write-ins in presidential primaries and does canvass the results for declared write-in candidates, so if Weld had filed as a write-in, he could have received votes. However, neither he nor anyone else filed as a write-in in the Republican presidential primary, and when no one files, the ballot omits a write-in space, so Weld will not receive any votes. Thanks to Darcy Richardson for the link.
I think they should have included him, but in all honesty, his poll numbers would be extremely low.
One more fake rigged *poll*.
