Louisiana Governor Postpones Presidential Primary Again

On April 14, Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards again moved the presidential primary.  He had already moved it from April to June 20.  The new proclamation moves it again, to July 11.  Thanks to Ballotpedia for this news.

There is no primary for other office.  Louisiana merely has a general election, on November 3, and a runoff if no one gets 50% in December.

Louisiana Governor Postpones Presidential Primary Again — 3 Comments

  1. The election on November 3 is not a general election. It is an Open Congressional Primary.

  2. It’s a general election because someone gets elected, no runoff, if they get over 50 percent. That’s the key difference between primary and election.

  3. I suspect that if Louisiana had held their Presidential primary on March 7th or some pre-covid date, then they’d be free to just move as many of their non-Pres Primary 2020 elections to November 3rd as possible, but because of two primaries that are likely to award 95-100% of their delegates to one candidate, they’re kinda hedging around a little.
