Rocky De La Fuente is the presidential nominee of the Alliance Party. According to the Alliance Party’s June newsletter, the ballot-qualified Natural Law Party of Michigan has decided to nominate De La Fuente as well.
The Natural Law Party of Michigan uses its ballot status to nominate someone for president every presidential election year. The Natural Law Party always chooses some presidential candidate who is running nationwide, and who needs the party’s help in being listed in Michigan. In 2016 the Natural Law Party nominated Socialist Party nominee Emidio Soltysik. In 2012 it nominated Rocky Anderson, nominee of the Justice Party. In 2008 it nominated independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader. In 2004 it nominated Socialist nominee Walt Brown. For prior years, the Natural Law Party existed nationwide, so naturally the Michigan Natural Law Party nominated the party’s national nominee, John Hagelin.
Thanks to Independent Political Report for this news.
So all far left/socialists til now? Interesting, I guess.
That the Natural Law Party nominated far left candidates is not surprising. It is the political wing of TM (transcendental meditation) the philosophy created by the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Yes, I know, though not sure what that has to do with left or right politically. What’s notable is that Rocky is not really a leftist, unlike others they nominated after hagelin. Though I did not really get the sense he was all that leftist either. Probably more centrist like Rocky.
Those involved with Right Wing politics generally do not associate with people who follow New Age Indian religions, while those involved with Left Wing politics are generally open to non traditional religions.
The old national NLP was intentionally centrist (other than the meditation stuff). Their platform would basically state the contemporary liberal and conservative positions on the topics of the day, then state their own policy was a position halfway between them.
Since then it always seemed the Michigan NLP just nominated the national candidate they thought would do best locally but was short a ballot line.
The ONLY *natural law* = Law of the Jungle ??? —
survival of the fittest ???
ONE result- See olde Hitler nazi regime 1933-1945 — failed to survive– after about 80 million dead worlwide in 1929-1945.
The truth is that the “Natural Law Party of Michigan” is just whoever lawyer Doug Dern wants to put on the ballot. Dern was a NLP member when there was a national NLP. I would describe him as a left-leaning independent.
I always make it a point to vote for NLP candidates for university school boards because it helps them retain ballot access. It is nice to see them giving the ballot line to a centrist instead of a socialist. I hope that trend continues.
