Here are the percentages: Democratic 37.20%; Republican 35.47%; Independent Party .91%; Libertarian .254%; Green .05%; Constitution .02%; Reform .01%; Socialism & Liberation .006%; Ecology .006%; independent and miscellaneous 26.08%.

Do you think that the relatively high number of people registering for the Independent Party is likely due to the same reason for the scenario with the AIP in California?
Probably. Although, I believe Jesse Ventura was elected Governor under the Independence Party banner, which, at the time, 1998, had become an affiliate of the Reform Party, which was formed by Ross Perot, after his 1992 presidential run as an independent. I believe that the Independence Party of Minnesota disaffiliated with the Reform Party in 2000. Jesse Ventura did not run for re-election, and left the Governor’s office in January of 2003, so his term as Governor was a long time ago now, but having a sitting Governor could have really helped pump up voter registrations for the Independence Party.
