On October 1, the California Secretary of State released registration data for September 4, 2020. Compared to the previous report, which was as of July 3, all of the qualified parties increased their share of the registration. The percentage of independent voters declined.
New data: Democratic 46.42%; Republican 24.16%; American Independent 2.90%; Libertarian .87%; Peace & Freedom .47%; Green .383%; unqualified parties .54%; unknown .529%; independent 23.72%.
July 2020 data: Democratic 46.32%; Republican 23.99%; American Independent 2.86%; Libertarian .85%; Peace & Freedom .46%; Green .380%; unqualified parties .57%; unknown .535%; independent 24.04%.
The Libertarians are up 35,743 between October 2018 and September 2020. Between October 2014 and October 2016 they only gained 19,001.
The Peace and Freedom party is up 25,118 between Oct 2018 and Sept 2020. Between Oct 2014 and Oct 2016 they actually lost -3,002.
The AIP is up 108,220 between Oct 2018 and Sept 2020. Between Oct 2014 and Oct 2016 they only gained 26,700.
The Republicans are up 397,022 between Oct 2018 and Sept 2020. Between Oct 2014 and Oct 2016 they only gained 42,976.
The Democrats are up 1,302,150 between Oct 2018 and Sept 2020. Between Oct 2014 and Oct 2016 they gained 1,011,734.
And then there are the Greens, who are down -8,212 between Oct 2018 and Sept 2020. Which, I guess, is an improvement over the -15,864 they lost between Oct 2014 and Oct 2016.
West Virginia’s new totals are interesting. 10,800 new registrations since this time last month and 10,808 of them are Republican. Gee, go figure. The Libertarians here are ON FIRE at +368 for just September. +1124 on the year. Mountain (Greens) are +24 in September, +82 on the year. Independents, unaffiliated, and other parties are +14,759 on the year. (Democrats, of course, are the big losers at -20,939): https://sos.wv.gov/elections/Documents/VoterRegistrationTotals/2020/Sep2020.pdf
That’s 11,800 new registrations.
While the Libertarians overall are only .87% of the total registered voters it is interesting to see where they are doing well by county. They are now at least 1% or more of the registered voters in every county that is located in its entirety north of Sacramento and those counties down the eastern side of the state along the Sierras along with San Diego and San Luis Obispo counties. Their lowest percentages of registered voters are in several of the counties around the San Francisco Bay.
