S. Marshall Wilson, a write-in candidate for Governor of West Virginia last month, polled 15,120 write-ins. He is West Virginia’s only independent legislator, although he did not run for re-election and will not be in the legislature in 2021.

More importantly, he outpolled the ballot-qualified Mountain Party candidate by almost 4000 votes (almost a half percent), but the Secretary of State here refuses to acknowledge both his candidacy and all the other write-in votes cast throughout the state. It’s not the first time that the Mountain Party has been outpolled in a statewide race. In 2008, The Constitution Party’s Chuck Baldwin squeaked out 110 more votes than Cynthia McKinney for US President.
