Louisiana will hold two special U.S. House elections on March 20. All candidates get on the ballot by paying a fee. Party labels are permitted if the candidate is a member of a qualified party. Qualified parties in Louisiana are Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, Green, and Independent.

If no one gets 50%, there is a runoff.

The qualifying period for both elections is January 20-January 22. As of the evening of January 21, in the Second District, there are seven Democrats, three Republicans, a member of the Independent Party, and a Libertarian. In the Fifth District, there are six Republicans and a Democrat.

  1. Candidate/Incumbent replacement lists.

Legis bodies MUST BE 100 pct full 24/7/365/366 — to watch esp for exec machinations.

  2. A large number of candidates from any one party in an open election can produce the least favored outcome for that party. This looks like a real problem for both major parties in each district. The runoff is not sufficient to overcome this problem. Louisiana should replace the runoff with ranked choice voting.

  3. I think I read one of the Louisiana congressman died from covid. What happened in the other district?

  4. What was his pre-existing condition? His wife said he didn’t have any pre-existing conditions. Why would his wife lie?
