The Libertarian Party national committee will choose a new national chair on Sunday, July 11. The committee is meeting by zoom. A new chair is needed because Joseph Bishop-Henchman resigned last month.

  1. Joshua Smith is the runner up in last year’s election and the logical choice in this one.

I think the best thing would be for LNC Vice Chairman, who 8s currently acting National Chairman, to stay on for the rest of the term as National Chairman, but Ken has a lot of other things going on in his life and he does not want the extra responsibilities that come with being Chairman, so he wants to step down and go back to being Vice Chairman.

    I think that Joshua Smith would make a great National Chairman, and given that he was runner up for National Chairman in 2020 and in 2018, adds to the case for him to become National Chairman for the rest of this term, but I doubt there will be enough votes for him on the LNC to make this happen.

Note that Henchman resigned over a scandal, which his role in facilitating a coup in the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire, which violated both LP of NH and LNC By-Laws, as well as basic libertarian ethics, and They likely violated the law as well, given that the coup included theft of property and fraud.

Andy – It seems a bit hypocritical to appear so concerned about an unproven allegation of JBH’s involvement in the temporary misappropriation of NH party resources, while at the same time supporting Joshua Smith for Chair when, as of 2018, Smith was reported to have $27,000 in outstanding child support payments (to the point where the state of Oregon was threatening to suspend his driver’s license), multiple restraining orders issued against him, allegations of domestic abuse, and allegations of sexual harassment at a Libertarian Party event. It’s just not a good look for a national party Chair.

The screeching feminazis and jilted sluts are no match for the criminal corruption of the disgraced ex chairs who unfortunately eked out wins over Josh in 2018 and 20.

  20. It is my understanding that Josh got caught back up with his child support payments, and that there was a serious lack of evidence with those other charges leveled against them.

JBH resigned in protest of the LNC’s refusal to disaffiliate New Hampshire when they started posting batshit pro-Jan 6 stuff and put a crazy racist and sexual harasser of minors in charge of their comms, and because the party is being torn apart by people who advocate such violations of libertarian principles. He did not resign because he insisted the Jarvis faction should be recognized by the LNC, which was never even his position.

And who is the troll trying to confuse people about Paul Stanton supporting Josh? Paul Stanton is a communist and would never support Josh.   29. With only two hours left until the voting ends, why are we not seeing any votes as they come in? Usually on LNC motions they show you the votes as they are cast.

  31. They are using OpaVote to conduct a ranked choice ballot, so the votes are coming in through that instead of the usual emails.

    The delegates at a national convention represent state parties, not the national party. State parties have very different definitions of membership, ranging from dues paying membership, to voter registration as a Libertarian (an option only available in about half the states, to pledge signers, to some combination. Some require state residency, some do not. Some require national party membership, some do not. It would be impossible to conduct a mail convention.

  58. Who is a “LP voter”? The national convention is a gathering of separate state parties, which each choose their delegates in very different ways. You keep skirting this point.
