Filing for California Gubernatorial Election Closes

Friday, July 16, was the deadline for candidates to file for the California gubernatorial election being held on September 14, 2021. The state will not release the list of candidates for another week.

California sends a voter pamphlet to each registered voter in the postal mail, and the pamphlet contains information on whether any qualified parties have endorsed any particular candidate. It appears that only two of California’s qualified parties have endorsed anyone. The Libertarian Party has endorsed its member Jeff Hewitt, and the American Independent Party has endorsed a Republican, Larry Elder. Thanks to Mark Seidenberg for this news.

Filing for California Gubernatorial Election Closes — 4 Comments

  1. Despite the AIP’s endorsement, one candidate has filed to run under the party’s label. Joseph Amey had initially filed to run as a No Party Preference candidate, but for some reason switched to the AIP.

  2. Does anyone know where Elder stands on the social issues? Thus far it’s been just a big intro.

  3. I think I read somewhere that Libertarians have at least one non endorsed member also running, as well as a former candidate of theirs now running as a Republican. Can anyone confirm? Do we know yet who did or didn’t make the ballot?

  4. You’re likely referring to Nickolas Wildstar, who although has been affiliated with the Libertarians is running as a Republican. Hewitt is the only person running under the Libertarian label. Surprisingly the Greens currently have 5 candidates running and the Peace & Freedom Party seems to have nobody.
