California Special Congressional Election Likely in April 2022

On January 1, California U.S. House member Devin Nunes resigned from Congress. According to this story, the special election will be in late March or early April. In California special elections, the first round is an election, because anyone who gets 50% is elected. But generally in special congressional elections, there is no incumbent, so there are many candidates and it is rare for anyone to get 50%. If there is a run-off, it will probably be in early June. 1. Candidate/incumbent replacement lists >>>

    NOOO mo special elections.

Legis bodies must be 100 pct filled 24/7.

  2. ANY candidate whose resignation from an elected office that causes a “special election” should have to PAY FOR THE COST OF THAT ELECTION! PERIOD! A person who runs for an elected office has the obligation to serve the ENTIRE TERM of the office to which they are elected for!

  3. Under California statute, the date set is based on the runoff, even though it will not necessarily be held. Ordinarily, the runoff is between 126 and 140 days from the date the proclamation is made. The proclamation must occur within 14 days of the vacancy.

This sets a window of May 7 to June 4. But the runoff may be delayed up to 200 days to coincide with a primary or general election.

So the runoff will be delayed until June 7 to coincide with the statewide primary. The special primary is 9 weeks before that, or April 5.

  4. Nunes was one of the very best in congress, and will be missed there. Looking forward to his work with President Trump.
