California Primary Has Excruciatingly Close Race for Insurance Commissioner

As of the close of business on Friday, June 17, the California June primary vote for second-place in the Insurance Commissioner election is almost tied. The results: Robert Howell, Republican, 1,124,820; Marc Levine, Democrat, 1,123,348.

The incumbent, Ricardo Lara, is far in the lead for first place.

    Once the election is certified, how close do these 2 people need to be for a re-count to be likely?

  2. The government will only pay for a recount if the margin is under 1,000 votes, or .015%, whichever is less. But anyone can request a recount and pay for it, regardless of the margin.
