The West Virginia Secretary of State has released voter registration data for June 30, 2022. The totals: Republican 444,318; Democratic 382,559; Libertarian 9,714; Green 2,323; Constitution 125; other and independent 301,464.
Percentages are: Republican 38.96%; Democratic 33.54%; Libertarian .85%; Green .20%; Constitution .01%; other and independent 26.43%.
Percentages on September 30, 2020, were: Republican 35.69%; Democratic 37.48%; Libertarian .67%; Green .19%; Constitution .01%; other and independent 25.95%. The name of the Green Party in West Virginia is the Mountain Party. The Constitution Party is not ballot-qualified in West Virginia but the state still tallies its registrants.
I tend to side with some that say party registration statistics are lagging indicators, but going down 4% in less than 2 years is massive change (as is going up 3%). Leads me to think Manchin just retires in 2 years. Think he’s a smart enough guy to see the writing on the wall.
LP numbers are slowly creeping up everywhere you look.
Glad to see the increase in registered Libertarians in West Virginia!
I think having to formally declare a party, is maybe a bit of a privacy concern. But, whatever.
If you ask me, if a minor party has got 5,000 or more reg members, it should be granted major party status. Automatic ballot access, public debate inclusion.
I as a minor political party county chair Edward TJ Brown have a walking list in an open primary state. It’s a list of every registered voter in the county and listing all elections they’ve voted in for the last 10 years, including primaries.
GOP ON THE RISE!
