SAM Party Merges with the Forward Party

On July 27, the SAM Party announced that it has merged into the Forward Party. The press release says the Renew America Movement (which, so far, has been a pressure group, not a political party) is joining as well. The name of the combined party will be “Forward Party.”

As far as is known, neither the SAM Party nor the Forward Party is on the ballot for any statewide office in 2022, in any state. The group will focus its efforts on the 2024 election. UPDATE: see this story.

Here is the website for the Forward Party.

SAM Party Merges with the Forward Party — 22 Comments

  1. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Alliance Party merges as well. The two entities are pretty much on the same center-left independent free thinker real estate. Although the issue is the Alliance Party are less a national party and more a coalition of a bunch of similar-minded state parties, and there’s been no sign the Forward Party consists of much more than Andrew Yang’s campaign infrastructure.

  2. Alliance party and Forward Party would not like to be called center left. They are centrist parties like Macron’s centrist ruling party in France. Alliance party is the result of merging of various parties. They and Forward party should think of either merging or collaborating together like CSU/CDU in Germany who ruled the country under chancellor Merkel. By the way isn’t Libertarian party also centrist? They won’t merge with those parties unfortunately.

  3. I entertained doing something with the Alliance Party and while I agree with you they would prefer to be called centrists that was based on looking at the national individuals involved and listening to their podcast. No disrespect to them and I’m not name-calling or anything, just my observation.

  4. How about the Goldilocks Statist Party ???

NOT too much / little control freak STATISM

    — BUT just enough control freak STATISM
    — to be politically brain dead.

  5. Unless it makes election reform a key part of its program, it won’t fare much better than other third parties have done. It should consider such ideas as:

    1. Adopting the Wyoming Rule to expand the size of the House of Representatives, and make representation and the electoral college more proportional to population.

    2. Requiring a minimum congressional district size to minimize gerrymandering and encourage the formation of multi member districts in metro ares.

    3. Requiring the use of alternative voting methods in multi member districts, such as RCV, approval or cumulative voting.

    4. Adopting ranked choice voting for Presidential electors, especially in swing states.

  6. I was polled for about one hour a week ago. The poll asked if i would consider voting for a 3rd party that was being formed for the 2024 election. Then asked for my thoughts on about 50 issues. I was wondering who it was. I now know it was the Forward Party

  7. I should add that the Poll said they would be ballot qualified for 15 states by the end of 2022 then all 50 by the 2024 election.

  8. in years past I may have agreed with you and when it comes to the rhino establishment I still do, but the GOP is becoming transformed by Trump, and thank God!

  9. Im watching this party I think its important enough for both parties to watch. some powerful people are joining forces and who knows what may happen. I do not know enough about their platform to know If I would like to join. But I am willing to listen and see. watch and learn.

  10. A central plank of the Forward Party’s platform is support for “Open Primaries.” We think that concept has been implemented in a bad way, for reasons stated at SaveOregonsDemocracy.org.

In June 2022, the Forward Party endorsed Betsy Johnson for Governor of Oregon. As a state representative for 4 years and a state senator for 17.5 years (all as a Democrat), she opposed every significant piece of climate legislation. Her campaigns are funded mainly by the timber and fossil fuel corporations, including Koch Industries. She has a 100% rating from the NRA and has received awards for opposing gun safety legislation. On gun control she has voted:

o NO to prohibit weapons on school grounds
o NO to require background checks for firearm sales
o NO to allow courts to prohibit suicidal individuals from owning guns
o NO to prohibit convicted stalkers from possessing firearms
o NO to authorize schools to prohibit guns on campuses

  11. So she’s actually not terrible at least on those issues as far as demoncrats go. But I’m sure she sucks on a whole lot of other stuff or else she would have been a Republican to begin with.
