Libertarian National Chair Gives Birth to a Healthy Baby Boy

On December 3, Angela McArdle, national chair of the Libertarian Party, gave birth to a healthy baby boy. As far as is known, this is the first time the national chair of any nationally-organized party has given birth. Major parties and minor parties alike have always had male chief executives until very recent decades. This is true, even for parties such as the Communist Party and the Socialist Workers Party who were among the first to nominate female presidential candidates.

    1. Susan Nolan 1972-4
    2. Alicia Clark 1981-3
    3. Mary Gingell 1991-3
    4. Whitney Bilyeu 2021-2
    5. Angela McArdle 2022-

    The first two were the wives of party leaders David Nolan and Ed Clark.

    The GOP national chair since 2017 has been a woman, Ronna McDaniel. The only other female RNC chair to date was Mary Smith, 1974-7.

    Dummycrats: Jean Westwood 1972, Debra DeLee 1994-5, Donna Brazile 2011 and 2016-7, Debbie Wasserman Schultz 2011-6.

    What else counts as a nationally organized party?

    I don’t know if any of these other women gave birth while holding that office. As far as I know it’s a complete coincidence that the GOP chair is named Ronna and the Dimolerats had one named Donna. The libertarians will probably have to look around to tap a woman named Lonna now?
