On January 25, the Alaska initative to repeal the top-four system was launched. It needs 26,705 signatures (10% of the number of voters who cast a ballot in November 2022). The initiative would restore the ability of parties to have nominees, and end ranked choice voting.
There are also three bills in the legislature to return to the pre-2022 system, but they aren’t expected to pass. They are SB 2 by Senator Mike Shower (R-Wasilla); HB 1 by Representative George Rauscher (R-Sutton); and HB 4 by Representative Sarah Vance (R-Homer).
SEWARD’S FOLLY! BACK TO REALITY IN AMERICA’S ICE BOX?
They should just change it to allow parties to control who runs on their label.
What they should do is get rid of the blanket primary, let each party have it’s own nominees, keep IRV for federal (because they’re limited to that – maybe tabulate pairwise though?), but go to multi-member districts with STV for state legislature (and then add “additional member” proportional as a way to top up the house of rep seats so they’re nearly 100% proportional; leave the senate with just STV seats), and then use IRV ballots for a pairwise election for governor.
I agree that the ability of parties to control their nominees should be restored, but Ranked Choice needs to be kept (and as Aiden mentioned, perhaps changed to multi-member RCV) in order to ensure free, fair, and more representative elections. If Australia can easily use RCV in their elections, surely we should be able to do so here in the United States; I’d like to believe we’re generally as intelligent as any other nation of people if we just tried to be.
And sure, let Alaskan RCV be “Seward’s Folly”. Seward had the last laugh when it was discovered that Alaska was insanely rich in natural resources, and the same will eventually be said of those of us who advocate reforms such as RCV and Proportional Representation
No wonder communists Aiden and Joshua loved ranked choice, because it helps commies like it did in Alaska.
NOOO EXTREMIST CAUCUSES, PRIMARIES AND CONVENTIONS.

REASON MAG MAR 2023, P. 15 HAS A 1 PAGE STORY ABOUT RCV.
Alaska rightfully belongs to Russia. It belongs to the Russian people, and the Czar should never have been allowed to get away with “selling” it. Reuniting Russia and Ukraine is a higher priority right now, but taking Alaska back is definitely on the list of putting back together a Russian led Eurasian Union. Cities such as Seattle, Portland and San Francisco are also part of Russian territory and Will be taken back.
MERGE FROZE STATES AK AND WY ???
WHAT PART OF THE USA IS NOT PART OF OLDE RUSSIA ???
DOD AND FBI WANT TO KNOW.
Wyoming was not part of Russia. Neither was any part of the US except Alaska, and the present day parts of western or coastal Washington and Oregon states, extending into northern and central coast of California. This is not esoteric information, it’s in grade school textbooks.
AMERICAN/CANADIAN INDIANS COME FROM NE ASIA LONG BEFORE ANY *RUSSIA* EXISTED — ALSO IN TEXTBOOKS.
And more recently discovered, Whites before that. What’s your point? It’s specious to compare the meandering of wild beasts or savage illiterate stone age tribes of animalistic humanoids with a modern Christian nation such as Russia with a Sovereign consecrated by the Orthodox Christian church. The meandering tribes are more closely comparable to the herds of animals they followed than to a great nation that bows only to Jesus.
