On March 13, the New York Green and Libertarian Parties cert petition with the U.S. Supreme Court. Libertarian Party of New York v New York State Board of Elections. There is no case number yet. The brief concerns the 2020 ballot access changes in New York. The legislature tripled the statewide petition for independent candidates and the nominees of unqualified parties, from 15,000 to 45,000 signatures. The legislature did not expand the petitioning period, which lasts six weeks in April and May.
The legislature also changed the definition of a party from a group that polled 50,000 votes for Governor, to one that polled 2% for the office at the top of the ballot, every two years (president/governor).
UPDATE: Here is the Appendix for the cert petition.
NOOOO MENTION OF 1954 BROWN V BD OF ED
… ONE MORE SUPER DISASTER BALLOT ACCESS FAILURE ???
When that inevitably fails, the NY Green and Libertarian Parties should take their grievances international; to the UN, The Hague, international news media, etc. Just as with the 1960s civil rights movement, if the Democratic/Republican Establishment is embarrassed enough in the international court of public opinion, they might suddenly become more open to reform.
Are you kidding me Joshua? You want a corrupt organization like the UN, plus international news which doesn’t care one bit? You really are stupid.
Again, appealing to the international community has *succeeded* in the past. You think civil rights legislation got passed in the 60s and 70s out of the goodness of both ruling parties’ hearts? Who is to say that such a pressure campaign couldn’t work again, even in this day and age? Yes, it’s an extreme longshot, although not as longshot as trying to get the SCOTUS to care, even I know that’s simply hopeless at this point.
Long story short, giving up doesn’t appeal to me.
Which parties candidates when they do get on the ballot explain to voters how the Ds and Rs are screwing them out of free choice?
The “civil rights” legislation passed in the 60s and 70s was and is commie garbage.
