Pennsylvania Governor Supports Moving 2024 Primary for All Office from April to March

According to this story, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro supports moving the 2024 primary for all office from April to March. The article says the main opposition to the move comes from people concerned that primary candidates would need to petition in the Christmas-New Years week. It doesn’t seem to occur to Pennsylvania legislators that they don’t need to require primary candidates to submit petitions. Over half the states do not require primary candidates to submit petitions to get on a primary ballot. Instead they depend on filing fees. Pennsylvania already has filing fees, but they are minimal amounts of money.

Pennsylvania Governor Supports Moving 2024 Primary for All Office from April to March — 54 Comments

  1. What an embarrassment Shapiro is. Doug Mastriano would have been a truly excellent governor. But instead, of course we had to have the usual rollout of the Philadelphia fraud machine. And now they are desecrating Christmas as part of the war on Christmas they have been waging for decades. These people would LINE up to help crucify Jesus Christ all over again, and never met an election they haven’t stolen or tried to steal.

  2. The losertarian and keystones kop spoilers sure didn’t help each other, stealing over 70,000 votes that rightfully belonged to Mastriano. Imagine how much better off we would be right now with Mastriano as Governor. I can’t put into words how sick and disgusted I am with the left and their perverted agenda to defile and destroy everything good and holy.

  3. How would this impact petition deadlines for minor parties and independents?

I seriously doubt the PA legislature will eliminate the primary petitions.

  4. Nobody owns third party “spoiler” votes.

Every candidate has to earn their votes.

    Every single one.

  5. Mastriano owned those votes, but the urban people cheating, especially in Philadelphia, was the bigger story. And now we have the Jewish Supremacists trying to dishonor Christmas to make it easier for the 2% who celebrate the Jew Passover.

  6. Approval voting is another commie scheme. Yes, communist cities are being destroyed by crime, but why do you supply a link from a COMMUNIST fake news site to frame the discussion?

  7. Partisan peace officers picked by winner party of noble knights in the precinct. First past the post, vote by party, standing count. The real separation of power’s: peace officers fight crime, military defends nation, nothing else is the government’s business.

  8. Moving the Pennsylvania primary would have no impact on petition deadlines for independent candidates and the nominees of unqualified parties. Those deadlines are on August 1 because of a Libertarian Party federal court victory in 1984. The legislature has never changed the statute, which still says the petitions are due in May. But all election officials understand that August 1 is the real deadline.

In Pennsylvania, every precinct has precinct officials from both major parties. Mastriano did not allege there was any voter fraud. The margin was 792,660 votes between Mastriano and Shapiro.

  9. He was probably too nice to point out the scale of the leftist cheating.

  10. It doesn’t seem to occur to Pennsylvania legislators that partisan primaries are not needed at all.

  11. Nonpartisan primaries are not needed either. Primaries aren’t needed at all.

  12. @Max,

Primary simply means first. If you want a majority, you may need more than one election.

  13. I’m fine with a plurality. If the men who see which way the wind is blowing want to walk over to the winning side, one by one or in groups, they have perhaps 2 or 3 hours to do so. I want one election per year, period. No second or third rounds of anything.

  14. There was an extreme level of ballot stuffing in Philadephia Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. It’s obvious.

  15. “Mastriano owned those votes”

So, why didn’t they vote for him, in the first place?

  16. “Spoiler party con artist trickery.”

That’s a rather facile answer. It doesn’t tell me why voters voted as they did.

    But, anyway, what’s the remedy?

  17. Remove the signature method of qualifying for the ballot. In Pennsylvania major parties have to have 15% of registered voters so they would be the only ones in the ballot.

The bigger problem is the dims cheating. Armed sheriff’s deputies should be at every voting place checking for warrants and illegals, as well as multiple, out of state, underage, and otherwise illegal voting. There would of course be paper ballots, and sheriff’s and observer’s at every stage of vote counting and tallying.

  18. The remedy was posted yesterday at 17:44 your time. Voting access would be by means of a party precinct captain who shows up to the voting hall on election night to lead his party’s knights.

  19. “The remedy was posted yesterday at 17:44 your time. Voting access would be by means of a party precinct captain who shows up to the voting hall on election night to lead his party’s knights”

Your solution is much too meager. It doesn’t provide me with enough choices, and it increases the probability that one party will control everything.

I am a Madisonian conservative who concurs with his opinions in federalist 10. Power should be distributed as widely as possible, and checks and balances established that minimize the chance than any party or person will achieve full control.
I want to be able to vote for one party for the Senate, a different party for the House, one party for President, and a different party for Governor Don’t let any cabal of bastards ever get full control.

  20. “Remove the signature method of qualifying for the ballot. In Pennsylvania major parties have to have 15% of registered voters so they would be the only ones in the ballot.”

That effectively locks in the lousy two party system permanently, and deprives people like me of other choices.

  21. “The bigger problem is the dims cheating”

Maine has a very good solution to this problem, at least on the Presidential level. They vote for Presidential electors by district. That confines most vote fraud to a handful of districts, and is less likely to adversely effect the overall result.

Pennsylvania would benefit very well by adopting the Maine system, and choosing presidential electors by district. Also, the ranked choice voting minimizes the spoiler effect of third parties.

Maybe Pennsylvania could consider using an electoral college to choose their Governor and US Senator. Every State Rep district would get one elector. Very hard for ballot box stuffers in Philly to impact the whole state.

  22. There’s a 100 percent chance that one party would control everything, because only one office would be elected. The good news is that it would be only for one year, and everything except law enforcement against criminals would be out of the hands of government altogether. The peace officers would be well known to the men voting on them, and they would have many nongovernmental connections from family to church to business etc, so abuse of power would be much more effectively restrained than partisan gridlock or separation of powers provides in practice.

  25. None of the offices you mentioned would exist. The only office up for election would be peace officer, which would combine the duties of law enforcement, judge, jury, and executioner. Crime would be very rare because penalties would be swift, sure, and severe, with summary execution for major crimes. It’s quite possible peace officers would even be part time.

There would be no government offices covering more than one precinct, unless you count commander in chief, and he would be picked by top levels of the military, perhaps with input from lower ranks, and have nothing to do with civilian life. No level of government would have anything to do with anything except protecting citizens from crime and foreign/alien invaders. Most disputes and transgressions would actually be dealt with within the household, by the patriarch.

  26. The whole written law would be much shorter than your current constitution. Interpretation and application to a given situation would be at the discretion of responding peace officers.

  33. Not only are you making things up, but you could not be more off base. The right wing, very decentralized, minimal government system I advocate is the opposite of the left wing, total government (hence totalitarian), ultra centralized Nazi and soviet regimes. Once again, no tyrant powers. You’re barking up the wrong tree, and please don’t try to explain my country’s history to me. I doubt you know very much about it. I, on the other hand, do.

  34. What makes the MaxZim regime *right wing* ???

Mere non-*knights* REQUIRED to join a knight’s posse or military unit ???

  35. No one is required to join anything. My proposal is based around a White/European Christian based society, patriarchy, and reactionary traditionalism. That makes it right wing. Where do you keep digging up stuff that has nothing to do with my proposal? It makes me think you have nothing in the actual proposal to criticize, since you keep having to invent things that are not in there.

  38. You’re off your rocker, again. Knighthood existed for millennia, all over the world. It doesn’t require a monarch, and I’m not advocating for one. Saying the concept of knighthood is bad because Nazis paid it verbal homage (only) is like saying that working for a living is bad because communists prattle on about “workers”.

  39. AZ I’M JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU. YOU ARE NOT EVEN MY TYPE. PLEASE ACCEPT AND RESPECT THAT, AND MOVE ON.

  40. as a member of the Constitution Party, I would advocate for the elimination of the primary all together… Every taxpayer foots the bill for the democrats and republicans to chose candidates.. make every party chose by convention, saving the Commonwealth money and making the parties pay for their own selection process.

  41. Pay for their own selection process whether it’s primary or convention or whatever else.
