Green Party Wins Majority on a British District Council

On May 5, Great Britain elected district councils. In the Mid-Suffolk District Council, the Green Party won a majority of seats. The new council consists of 24 Greens, 6 Conservatives, and 4 Liberal Democrats.

The Mid-Suffolk District is one of five districts in Suffolk County, in the east of England. The district has a population of 96,731. The Green Party now feels optimistic that it can elect a member of Parliament from the area, in the next Parliamentary election. Currently Greens have only one member of the House of Commons.

The complexity of government and laws, vast scale of state and federal government’s, rent seeking by bureaucrats and crony capitalists, lenient treatment of criminals, vote stealing, manipulated public opinion, population replacement – it all adds up to an ever growing tyrannical mess, with plenty of fingers pointed as to who is to blame. That’s the precise reason tyranny grows.

  8. Allegiance should be to the law. The law should be simple to memorize and understand.

  9. Curious, the results show Labour has no seats. Is this typical for this council or did Labour voters back Green candidates? How many of the winning candidates (of any party) actually got a majority of the votes in their respective districts as opposed to a plurality?

  10. Labor only ran 8 candidates out of 30 seats. It appears 4 greens, 2 conservatives, and 1 liberal democrat won with a plurality, the rest were majority winners.

  14. Correction to my comment: I said “Labor” should be “Labour” (that was autocorrect). Also I said out of 30 seats, it should be out of 34 seats.

  16. Neither France 1789 nor colonies which became the US are applicable to the UK today. The British monarchy is now mostly ceremonial, not absolute like France prior to the revolution. And there’s no sense in which Britain is a colony, unless you stretch definitions to include the ongoing brexit.
