Ohio Legislature Approves Bill Requiring Constitutional Initiatives to Pass with 60%, and Making the Petition More Difficult

On May 10, the Ohio House passed SJR2, which is a proposed constitutional amendment. It would require initiatives that amend the constitution to pass with 60%. Also it makes it more difficult for initiatives to get on the ballot. Assuming the measure is signed, initiative petitions will need a substantial amount of support in each of Ohio’s 88 counties. Also the “cure” period, to fix any flaws in the initiative, is abolished.

The bill also says that voters will vote on it on August 8, 2023, at a time when nothing else is on the ballot.

Some legal experts believe that it is illegal to set the August 8 election date in a resolution, instead of a bill.

  1. ??? PAT THE TROLL MORON V AZ ???

CLOSE TO OZ LAND IN THE 1939 WIZARD OF OZ MOVIE ???

  2. Yes, I have a restraining order now. Unfortunately it doesn’t include public website comments. I really wish it did.

  3. When it comes to getting turnout on August 8th, do the resolution authors seriously think they control their base far better to come out and vote than their opponents do? The modern-day Republican Party is not a machine in the slightest. City Democrats are far better at that.

  4. HOW MANY PAT FOLKS NOW ON MOTHER EARTH ???

VARIANTS ALSO – PATRICK, PATRICIA, ETC.

TOO MANY PRE-SKOOOL TROLL MORONS WITH 0.666 OR LESS IQS TO COUNT.

  5. AZ VICIOUS BIGOTRY AGAINST PATS MUST BE CONDEMNED IN THE STRONGEST POSSIBLE TERMS BY ALL PEOPLE OF GOOD FAITH!

  6. Isn’t it a higher threshold for the legislator to approve a Constitutional Amendment? Rightly it should be higher for voters as well. Because it makes it more difficult, doesn’t mean the higher threshold for an Amendment doesn’t have merit.

  7. Amending the written law should be extremely difficult, requiring unanimous consent or something very close to it. Written law should be significantly shorter than your country’s constitution, and easily memorized and understood by average people. Interpretation and implementation should be in the hands of elected responding peace officers.

  8. IN ZMAXZ LAND — WHEN IN DOUBT BY *PEACE* OFFICERS – SHOOT / KILL AND BE IMMUNE ???

SEE PREVIOUS SECRET POLICE IN STALIN AND HITLER REGIMES.

MERE 99.99 PCT AND H-BOMBS NEEDED TO CHANGE LAWS WRITTEN IN TITANIUM CARBIDE [HARD STUFF] ???

  9. Why do you ask things that were already answered repeatedly? Do you have attention deficit disorder, or are you just purposely trolling and trying to waste my time?

  10. For the benefit of other readers only:

Obviously, the job of peace officers as I envision it would be one of great responsibility. I’ve shared why I believe this power would not be abused before, but I’ll explain it again.

The Hitler and Stalin regimes were vast centralized bureaucracies with byzantine complexity of laws and edicts and pro forma legalistic bs. They were the exact opposite of the very decentralized, human scale, extremely limited governments with simple, easy to understand rules I propose. Everything in society was concentrated in the hands of government, which is again the opposite of my proposal.

Another aspect of what was wrong with those regimes which you hit on is the secret part of secret police. Far from secret police, the peace officers I propose would be elected annually and easily replaced during the course of the year, and quite likely part time with other full time jobs or businesses to run. They would live and work in the communities where they police, and with modern technology it’s quite possible to always have them on camera when they carry out peace officer duties from start to finish. The footage can even be available live as well as for subsequent review online.

    I’ll continue shortly.

  11. As mentioned, in Nazi and communist governments everything is in the hands of the state. In my proposal, only protecting the community from a very limited number of crimes and the nation from foreign attacks and invaders is government business. Everything else is handled through other means. Thus families, churches, businesses, charities, professional guilds or associations and so on become more important, not less as in Soviet and Nazi regimes.

The men serving as peace officers would have many other ties to their community through their many other roles in those nongovernmental associations, making them accountable in many ways. Their wives would associate with the other men’s wives, their children with the other men’s children, they would be each other’s business customers, attend church together, and so on.

The Nazi and soviet regimes confiscated the guns in the hands of civilians. My proposal would encourage civilian gun ownership and training. Indeed, it would require it for voting rights.

Most disputes and minor transgressions would never even come to peace officers. They would be handled by the patriarch within the family. The household would be the more traditional larger household with grandparents, servants, and children of servants living on the property. Outside the household, volunteer neighborhood watch groups would handle minor matters. Only a small number of disputes and major crimes which can’t be resolved through all those other means would require calling in peace officers.

Because punishment would be severe, swift, and sure, there would be very few crimes requiring the attention of peace officers to begin with. And of course Nazi and soviet regimes had no real elections, much less annual, with the men serving as peace officers quite likely to be on the other side of that line the following year, or sooner if their individual behavior is not acceptable to the winning party.

The small local scale of government alone would be a very significant difference. The soviet and Nazi states were vast not only in how many areas of daily life they intruded on and the complexity of their bureaucracies, but also in their physical size and population. This made individuals and local areas insignificant to the central state.

    More later.

  12. I think also maybe a lot of people in high crime nations such as the US take the high levels of crime for granted, like it’s normal human nature or something. This is not true. There are many nations which have much, much lower crime levels. Iceland for example.

In addition to the other reasons I mentioned why I believe crime would be a lot lower under my proposal is that a lot of it is only because of social changes your country experienced since around 1965. Before that you had much better policies like school prayer, racial segregation in the schools and public accommodations, less of the welfare programs that came in with Lyndon Johnson’s “great society,” much better immigration policies from the 1920s to 1965, homosexuals were in the closet and classified as mentally ill, illegal drugs were not nearly as accepted, abortion and pornography were illegal, divorce and single motherhood were less socially acceptable, birth control was not universally available, etc, so as a result you had a much healthier society and much less crime.

  13. And yes, laws should be very difficult to change, and criminals should not be coddled or warehoused. We need to worry a lot less about the rights of criminals and a lot more about public safety, the victims and their families, and everyone who has to pay the costs of and deal with the fear of crime.

  14. Max may be on to something. Democracy is an illusion. Public opinion is heavily manipulated. In reality elites still rule and the veneer of democracy and free speech (as long as you don’t say the wrong thing or offend the wrong people) just adds to bread and circuses as ways to distract the masses of asses as they march like sheep to the slaughterhouse.

I mean that quite literally. It’s an open secret that the elitists plan to sacrifice 90% of the world’s population, allegedly for environmental reasons. In reality it is a mass human sacrifice to Satan, as if their current practice of molesting, killing, and eating millions of children wasn’t bad enough. Only a sacrifice of billions will be enough human blood for the evil globalist scum to create their totalitarian panopticon prison planet dystopia under the iron boot of Lucifer forever.

  15. I like the idea of executing criminals, whipping them, putting them in stockades, selling them into indentured servitude, seizing all their property, etc, as opposed to coddling and warehousing them at the taxpayers cost.

  16. The idea of simple laws which the average person can understand and memorize has a great deal of merit.
