Federal judge orders UAW monitor to detail election objections

    Breana Noble
    The Detroit News

A federal judge is ordering the United Auto Workers’ court-appointed monitor to divulge more details on objections to the Detroit-based union’s first direct election of international leaders.
New UAW President Shawn Fain in March beat incumbent Ray Curry with 50.2% of the vote. More than 400 votes separated them once the nearly 140,000 ballots were tallied after weeks of delays in determining an official winner because the results were too close to call in the runoff race. The monitor, New York attorney Neil Barofsky, officially certified the results in his seventh report filed last week in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

  2. Crimea was part of Russia until Khrushchev decided it was Ukraine in the 1950s. It’s 90% Russian. It was part of a nation of Ukraine for only about 20 years in it’s whole history, and has been part of Russia again for 9 years. CNN is of course fake news, Obama and Biden can’t and couldn’t do anything about Crimea, and the only thing you got right is that Biden is useless, but not for the reason you seem to imply. It’s none of the US business. Doesn’t the US have enough of its own problems without trying to start a nuclear war?

  3. AZZ has trouble telling much difference between Trump and Hitler. Ironically, he’s mad at Biden for not being enough like Hitler. Biden’s not a decision maker anyway. He’s waiting on orders from Xi or Von der Leyden. Both of whom are probably too smart to start a nuclear war over Crimea. We’ll see.

  4. When the Soviet Union broke up into separate countries, all of the parts signed agreements respecting the boundaries. Why did Russia agree in 1991 that Crimea was part of Ukraine?

  5. Because of the weak, spineless, worse than useless leadership Russia had at the time. They had an economic train wreck and social unrest threatening to spiral out of control, plus an attempted coup or counter coup. Actual coup is probably more accurate. They needed western money badly and were not exactly in a position to negotiate.

  6. SO SORRY –

  9. Max is already in Russia, moron. I live here. I’m from here. There are no P1 or P2 gangs I ever heard of, but maybe AZ extensive connection in our criminal underworld gives him knowledge regular Muscovites like me have no access to. I have homes in central Moscow, rural Moscow region, and Sochi. Yet have never heard of P1 or P2 gangs.

Sorry. I’m not a gangster and too old for military service. I did mine during the Afghanistan conflict. Ours, not yours.

What is not fake news has been related to AZ several times now. Why ask questions if you don’t read answers? Is it just because you are a troll?

Incidentally, we have not had a reigning monarch since 1917, and you have not had one since the 18th century. We don’t have a tyrant now, either, contrary to what troll moron AZ and your fake news tell you. We have an elected President who is popular. Come to Russia and do your own survey if you do not believe me. We did have excessive foreign influence for a few decades, a problem now being solved.

The facts aren’t there to lock up your President in exile from office, Donald Trump. It’s more malicious persecution by your deep state and fake news. AZ may or may not know this. He thinks Trump is a lot like Hitler, so whatever. I’ll leave it to AZ to interpret Nostrodamus, chicken entrails, etc.

  10. Unlike Max, Pat is not in Russia, and has no desire to be in Russia, unless it’s to get further away from AZ. But then that’s probably not necessary, since many people tell me he rarely even leaves his house. Much less his city or state.

I think AZ means Putin and Prigozhin by P1 and P2. He speaks comintern style jargon, more often than not completely inscrutable, but I think I broke the code this time.

I sympathize with D. Frank’s lament. The discussions of Russia and Ukraine are off topic, except perhaps if related to minor political parties, independent candidates, or alternative election systems. Given that the proprietor has engaged in these off topic conversations himself on a different article, perhaps an open thread for the topic would be in order?

  13. I support our legal government, but I think Prigozhin has made valid criticisms of policies Shoigu, Gerasimov and others removed from the field of battle have implemented or convinced the President to adopt. I’m even sympathetic to his view that the situation is now dire enough to have no alternative to direct action, no matter how illegal. But unless and until he succeeds in his actions, I support law and order.

I’m not taking any sides in any armed conflict. We have military, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies for that, and young adult men if anyone has to be mobilized. I already did my military service decades ago, as previously mentioned.

I hope it leaves my property and investments and my family, neighbors and friends and theirs, intact, or as intact as possible. In general, I hope for minimal loss of life and property, and for the appropriate adjustments of policy, if possible.

In general, this illustrates the problems of overly large organizations. In general, it is impossible for the President of a nation of tens or hundreds of millions of people, or even billions in the case of India and China, or top military commanders and policy makers in a capital far from the front, to have all the information to make good decisions, no matter how good they are at making decisions. They face too many competing pressures, and too many yes men at various levels passing along overly rosy reports rather than realistic assessments because it makes their immediate positions easier not to face reprimand or replacement.

At the same time, it’s not possible for commanders at the front to know or understand the pressures on the President and top commanders and officials from foreign leaders of top trade partners, other top world militaries, etc, and business leaders with organizations which are themselves way too large for similar reasons, who have business and personal interests abroad.

Thus, I recommend devolving powers to the far more local level, and creating incentives for business and other aspects of social organization to do the same. I’ve explained what those would be, so won’t do so again currently, unless someone who is not AZ asks.

I’ve said there needs to be a larger level for military defense. Perhaps I’m wrong in that regard. I was thinking that nations of 100k or so would be easily swallowed up by nations that are much larger, but not necessarily so, is my new thought (not necessarily new – perhaps renewed would be the better word). There are obvious advantages to size, but there are disadvantages also. And the size advantages are not insurmountable; our country and yours have been forced to leave, not even by nation states that were smaller, but ragtag guerrilla forces.

Since I’ve had this set aside while working on other things, the original issue in question was settled. Nevertheless, getting back to what I was saying.

Israel and Switzerland have top 20 militaries with less than 10 million people each. Micronations rarely ever get invaded. Perhaps even countries of 100k would defend themselves just fine. I’m open to adjusting my working model for the national defense units bad the same as the crime defense units (what I’ve been calling precincts). Is there any good reason why not?

If those units are adjusted to 100k people and a hundred voters or within the order of magnitude, it opens the possibility for the commander in chief to be elected by the same electorate as the peacekeepers. Would it make sense for someone who doesn’t run anything except the military to be elected by people who are not serving in the military? Keep in mind that they would all be veterans if not currently serving.

  14. HOW COME MAX IS NOT NEXT TO [OR IN FRONT OF] PUTIN IN THE RUSSIAN DEATH AND DESTRUCTION REGIME ???

FORCED MAX POP IN REGIMES ???

NO MILITARY TREATIES FOR MUTUAL SUPPORT ???

WMD FOR ALL REGIMES – FOR *DEFENSE* ONLY ??? — GOOD LUCK.

  15. AZ asks how many Afghans I killed. It was a war. You sometimes have to shoot and not know whether any people are even in a building or structure, vehicle, landscape feature, etc. If there are any, you may well have no means of knowing how many, whether any of such people if there were any suffered any damage, or the extent thereof. Even when people are out in the open, there often isn’t time to ascertain whether you actually hit them, much less whether the damage was fatal if you did.

There are many roles in a war. Many of them don’t ever involve directly personally killing people. Nevertheless, they do indirectly contribute to the military’s ability to do so more efficiently. I didn’t say anything about what my role was, other than previously mentioning that I helped guard prisoners of war during their transportation.

I don’t see any reason to discuss that, either. If I killed people, it was legal in the course of warfare, and necessary due to circumstance. We had required military service, and I didn’t choose my deployment or assignments. Killing people who are trying to kill you and those next to you, or trying to, is not avoidable, unless you don’t care whether you yourself survive, or whether you are imprisoned if you do survive, if you fail to at the very least attempt it during wartime. At the time I saw no reason to question whether we should have been there (not that it would have done any good if I had).

Anyone asking such questions has almost certainly never served in a military deployment in a war or conflict zone. Therefore, AZ must never have done so, or else it was so long ago and he’s so affected by senile dementia that he no longer remembers the most basic things about what that’s like. It’s a particularly stupid thing to ask, but then that’s AZ for you. A better question would be why AZ would ask me that, but I’m not asking him, because asking him anything is a waste of time.

  16. AZ also inquires whether all my communications are being monitored by our Federal Security Service. I have no way to know, but I doubt it. I’m not likely to be of much interest to them. Perhaps they’re monitored passively, but if they are wasting human resources on monitoring them actively very much, they’re being egregiously wasteful. There’s a 9 digit number of people to monitor, and I would think many of them would be of far more interest than me.

As for your national security agency, there would on top of that be the additional question of how they would even be able to do so, especially when I’m not on US visits. If they are able to monitor communications of anyone in any part of the world, it would make it even less likely that they would take much interest in me, particularly active interest, given we are now discussing a 10 digit population of monitorees and perhaps 5 figures at best of people available to sort through the information collected.

AZ doesn’t sound like he’s particularly aware of the challenges of data gathering, sorting, and prioritization. He seems to think intelligence services have unlimited budgets and personnel, or perhaps extraordinary interest in message board participants. In reality, they have difficulty even with high priority individuals posing active threats, much less people merely discussing unusual opinions on obscure message forums with no logistics planning for anything even remotely resembling any foreseeable near term threat.

I don’t know what a forced max pop is. I’ve explained the ideal population in government units previously, and why I think it should be in the range I think it should be in. My only thought on that since then is perhaps military defense areas do not actually have to be larger than crime defense areas, but perhaps there are still reasons they need to be. I’d discuss further if rational people (that doesn’t include AZ) were available and expressing an interest in so doing. Otherwise, what would be the point?

  17. Undeterred by the utter divorce from reality of his predictions and questions earlier today, AZ continues to sputter out catastrophic nonsense. The “open war for control” didn’t end up amounting to very much. Predictions of WMD use were of course utterly ludicrous. So:

Military treaties for mutual support are probably counterproductive. They only lead to more and larger scale wars.

I’m not next to or in front of our President for the same reason AZ and other people here are not next to or in front of yours. I’m not anyone that he needs next to or in front of him. Like you, we have a 9 digit population. The vast majority of us aren’t next to or in front of our Presidents. Furthermore, I have no desire to be. If that was my ambition, perhaps I would have achieved it, but more likely not, given the number of people who do have such ambitions. I do not have such ambitions, and never have.

I don’t know of any P2 gangs, other than the now defunct Propaganda Due in Italy, also known as P2. As usual, AZ refers to bottom feeding propaganda fake news sources. If P2 is Prigozhin, to my knowledge he’s going to Belarus, or at least has been promised safe passage and harbor there. I doubt that extends to all or most of his followers. Some of them will probably be imprisoned for their role in the fiasco, and perhaps a few will eventually be executed. I doubt it will be a large number, as to the latter.
But then, AZ famously lacks any sense of proportion or scale whatsoever.

“Death and destruction regime” is baloney. We’re considerably better off than under any prior national leaders in my lifetime or the preceding parts of the Soviet era now. Almost certainly better off overall than in Tsarist times as well. Other regimes of other countries are worse in many respects. US lamestream media is constantly full of lies, BS, and spin, especially about our country. AZ relies on this swill and then further embellishes it. Very sad. As was the delusional march on Rostov.

  18. Confused: I’m in Russia, and Pat is not. That’s all explained above. I don’t know why AZ is so interested on either of us.

  19. Actually, apparently even the followers have been promised no consequences. That’s good, because they’re needed back at work. They have other commanders to lead them who have considerably more field experience. Prigozhin didn’t appear in theater before Ukraine, and has only even stopped denying his association with Wagner Group for less than a year. Before that, to my knowledge, he was a removed from the action armchair guy himself, to my knowledge.

  20. WMD: Another reason to scale down regimes. Likely few would afford such weapons, and presuming any went to war with their neighbors, they would be in more geographic proximity, thus far less likely to use something that might hit their own population. If anyone did so anyway, the wars would be a lot smaller in scale, as would number of people likely to be impacted. With giant countries and military alliances, it’s much easier for a local conflict to scale up.

  21. WHAT ARE KILLER *PROMISES* WORTH ???

SEE OLDE 1939 HITLER-STALIN DEAL — NOOO WAR BETWEEN REGIMES – JUST WIPEOUT POLAND, ETC.

    22 JUNE 1941 – 1942 HITLER ATTACKS OLDE USSR

CIRCA 40 MILLION DEAD USSR FOLKS – WESTERN USSR BLASTED

CIRCA 5 MILLION DEAD GERMANS – EASTERN GERMANY BLASTED – TAKEN OVER TO 1989

  22. I’m not particularly concerned with whether Putin and Prigozhin are honest with each other. They know each other well, and are thus far more qualified to judge such things than am I. As for the rest, I’m not sure how it relates to the tempest in a teapot march on Rostov, but given the source is the same guy who thinks there is very little difference between Trump and Hitler, the US a monarchy, etc, I don’t care.
