On June 28, the New Jersey Secretary of State asked the U.S. Supreme Court for a time extension, in Mazo v Way, 22-1003. Otherwise the state’s response would have been due July 5. This is the lawsuit that challenges the New Jersey law that won’t permit certain words in a primary candidate’s ballot label.
Primary ballots should be considered in the domains of the political parties themselves, and the party should be able to decide what descriptive words that a candidate may add to the ballot.
