Joe Lieberman Asserts in the WSJ that No Labels Will Not Be a Spoiler and Can Win the Presidency

In the October 13, 2023 edition of The Wall Street Journal, former US Senator and Vice Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman asserts that intensive polling in eight swing states indicates that No Labels will not be a spoiler presidential ticket and actually has a path to win the White House.

  25. Without the electoral college in the current super-charged partisan environment, the Presidential election would be total chaos. Nobody would believe the results from anywhere.

    In a sharply partisan division, the electoral college has the virtue of resolving the election quickly in most states, and confining the outcome to a handful of closely divided states.

    That doesn’t mean that the electoral college cannot be improved. I have already mentioned some of the ways.

    But, if anyone missed it, I will reiterate:

    1. The Wyoming Rule ought to be adopted to expand both the House of representatives, and the Electoral College by about +120 votes. That would make both of them more proportional to population.

    2. Alternative methods for choosing electors in the swing states should be adopted, both to minimize fraud (voting by districts), and to minimizing the potential “spoiler” effect of third parties (Runoffs, proportional, approval or ranked choice voting).

  35. Their polling probably actually does show that. But it’s fool’s gold. Once the actual nominee is chosen, and starts to receive negative attacks, plus RFK and others splitting the protest vote and all the money and effort by the legacy big two to rally around their nominees after they are nominated, and the fool’s gold will be leaving some visible ring around the collar.

    If the polling fake bump persists into the March / April timeframe they’ll probably nominate and complete ballot access. Then, as the numbers fade, they’ll find themselves suing states to remove their own candidates. Most likely some with more success than others.
