Pew Research Poll Shows Younger Voters Are More Supportive of Having More Political Parties

On October 19, a Pew Research Poll was released, that asked voters if they wish there were more parties to choose from. Those in their 20’s who strongly or somewhat desire more parties amount to 79%. But among voters over age 65, only 51% are in that category. See here.

  1. Yet, there is even a majority over 65 who favor more parties.

So, it must be a clear majority across the board.

  2. Lots of commie parties to split the commie vote are good. Maintain right wing eligibility just in case the pink elephant pre Trump GOP establishment takes back control of the GOP, which is not likely.

  3. Casually over the decades I try to get a copy of local high-school newspapers & special (non-sports and non-administration) publications. Interesting to see what youth & schools are up to.
Occasionally there are political surveys and reports of various clubs. Over the last 15years or so there’s been a steady rise in percent of students preferring 3rdparties! Much of that is due to fact that about 15years ago, 3rd parties, primarily Green & Libertarian, are (finally) offered as an option.
Nearly all schools have a Democrat & Repub club but a few even have a Libertarian &/or Green club too!
Those youthful alternative-politics would increase in popularity if the media & debate sponsors would simply recognize and include minors in coverage & forums.

  4. As David Nolan pointed out with his “World’s Smallest Political Quiz”, a one-dimensional spectrum of “right-wing” and “left-wing” is simplistic, and doesn’t encompass the entire range of political ideas. He devised a two-dimensional spectrum that included “up-wingers” who are proponents of personal social freedom, and “down-wingers” who prefer more social control.

Viewed in this way, a two party system with a one-dimensional spectrum of plurality voting is insufficient. That’s one reason, in and of itself, why we need a wide variety of new parties across the multi-dimensional spectrum, and a voting system that can accommodate that variety.

  5. Any number of dimensions oversimplifies things.

No pollsters are going to ask about AZ idiosyncratic misconceptions.

  6. Each person has unique views. Two dimensions is only slightly more oversimplified than one.

  8. More, and smaller states would make them more competitive with each other.

Especially on taxes. I think its great that there are no-income-tax states that folks are flocking to.

    We need more of them.

  9. THE ECONOMY RUNS ON INCOME — BY DEFINITION OF GDP

INCREASE INCOME TAX EXEMPTION FOR 18 PLUS YEAR OLDE FOLKS

  10. I like Max tax ideas: poll tax, head tax and tariffs only, no other taxes at any level.

  11. You know what else, young, flexible youth of America need? Wind Farms!

  12. Actually, when presented with the scientific facts most people and most whales do support Wind Farms. The people suggesting otherwise are just fake news proponents.

  13. Nazi Edward Brown is lying. You know he is lying. He knows he is lying. His unscientific fake news is a bunch of political rent seeking lies. The real scientific facts are at Stopthesethings Dotcom.

  14. Whales support wind farms because they are harmless to whales. I cited facts, critics cite fake news and make slanderous comments.

  15. No, you cited a fake news article. I’ve cited a wealth of actual research.

  16. 2 OR MORE TROLL MORONS RAVING AT EACH OTHER ???
