Taiwan holds a presidential election on January 13, 2004. Parties are automatically on the ballot if they received 5% of the vote in the last presidential election. Three parties meet that criteria.
Other parties and independent candidates need a petition of 1.5% of the last vote cast in the most recent parliamentary election. For the upcoming presidential election, about 290,000 signatures are needed. This story says one petition was submitted, for independent candidate Terry Gou.

The 5% vote test is a high bar. I believe most states in the US don’t have such a high test. However, four parties met the test in Taiwan (Taiwan has partial proportional representation in the legislature). Only three nominated candidates.
The 290,000 signature requirement is surely not as high as the US? One candidate has met this requirement in Taiwan.
Therefore, four candidates will be on the ballot for president. Some US states didn’t have that many last time.
I’m having trouble finding information about ballot access for Taiwan’s legislature. However, a Reuters article from 2020 stated that “…In total there are 45 parties standing for the parliamentary elections, mostly small groups with little hope of getting seats…” (even the party-list proportional seats)
