Federal Election Commission Votes to Make It Possible for Federal Candidates to Pay Themselves Higher Compensation from Campaign Funds — 4 Comments

  1. “The change, which the Federal Election Commission approved 5-1, is aimed at helping ensure that Americans of modest means can afford to mount campaigns for Congress and the White House, its proponents say”

“The new rules “will help ordinary, working-class Americans to represent their communities by running for federal office,” said FEC Commissioner Shana Broussard, a Democrat who championed the rule change.”

This is an interesting development. It might encourage more indeoendent and third party candidates to seek office.

  2. Proponents are a bit optimistic, perhaps. Americans of modest means, with relatively rare exceptions, are generally unlikely to head up political campaigns in the candidate role which are capable of raising levels of funds which make it possible to pay the candidate a living wage, especially if that is not the sole and entire actual purpose of the alleged (s)campaign.
