Chase Oliver Files as a Write-in Candidate in the California Libertarian Presidential Primary

The Libertarian Party has its own presidential primary in Califoria, to be held March 5. The only name on that ballot is Charles Ballay. However, California counts write-ins in presidential primaries for declared presidential write-in candidates. Chase Oliver has already filed as a declared write-in candidate. It is not known if others will also file. The deadline for doing that is February 13.

At the January 5, 2024 California registration tally, there were 240,770 registered Libertarians. Registered independents can also vote in the Libertarian primary.

  2. Libertarians in California asked Chase to file so that they could write in his name and have their vote counted. He was happy to do so.

  3. Nice move, Mr. Chase. And of course it matters. Showing how much support you have in a presidential preference primary indicates how organized your campaign is to *check notes* “campaign” and get-out-the-vote and electability (since no party affiliated voters can vote in this presidential primary).

    As a note of caution, Mr. Lars Mapstead, a Californian, would have his prospects challenged if he can’t demonstrate a similar prowess and avoids this challenge.

    The 2020 LP California presidential primary turnout saw 28,535 voters participate.

  5. Even though this is a non-binding primary it makes the party look bad for it to have only one candidate on the ballot, and even more so since this one candidate is somebody even most party members have never heard of prior to this.
