  1. First I’ve heard of this and I’m only two counties away from him. If so, he doesn’t get to select his running mate. That is a separate CP nominating convention vote.

  2. Correction: He used to reside in Romney, WV, but apparently has relocated to Tennessee, so he is no longer a fellow West Virginian.

  3. clarification of CP VP choice procedure, designated presidential candidate may request a particular VP candidate, but the request must be ratified by the convention delegates OR presidential candidate may delegate decision to convention delegates OR both methods may be mixed. I attended past 2 conventions and saw both in action. 8 years ago POTUS candidate requested a particular VP candidate, who was quickly ratified by delegates. 4 years ago POTUS candidate did not have initial preference, offered choice to delegates. Several were nominated from floor by various delegates, but some immediately declined, others allowed themselves to become candidates included for choice. As this list of several plausible candidates increased, the POTUS candidate asked whether he could then make a choice, which the convention chair approved. He chose one of those previously listed, and his
choice was ratified by the delegates.

  4. Thanks for the pertinent info, Daniel. I have yet to attend a convention – was new to the party the last time it was reasonably nearby in Valley Forge, PA in ’04. Hopefully in ’28 the party will swing it out to this side of the country again since we’re overdue. From what’s on the net, the party’s convention history is as follows:
    1992 – New Orleans, LA
    1996 – San Diego, CA
    1999 – St. Louis, MO
    2004 – Valley Forge, PA
    2008 – Kansas City, MO
    2012 – Nashville, TN
2016 – Salt Lake City, UT
    2020 – held via videoconference
2024 – Salt Lake City, UT
