Ohio Independent Candidate for U.S. House Sues to Overturn Petition Requirement

On April 9, an independent candidate for U.S. House in Ohio, filed a state court lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the petition requirement of 1% of the last vote cast, due in March. Tjaden v Geauga County Board of Elections, Court of Common Pleas, Geauga County. Here is the Complaint

  1. It’s kind of silly independents have such a hard time getting on ballots.
    Compare that with party candidates.
    Did you know that one could file as a write-in in a party nomination and get put on the ballot without a single petition signature (other than your own of course) if you won that primary. Even if you were uncontested and only you voted for yourself in that primary?
