  26. There are many Jewish people in Israel who are opposed to the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. There are thousands of Israelis protesting Netanyahu in the streets in Israel. They are equally opposed to Hamas and the Netanyahu government policy.     My grandparents were kicked out of Muslim countries for being Jewish.   28. There’s no “genocide” in Gaza. There are unfortunate deaths in war. It happens in every single war anywhere ever. The war was started by Hamas. Eliminating Hamas is the only option.

    Genocide is what Hamas and their supporters want. They say it openly – from the river to the sea. They do as much of it as they can given their available means. Ceasefire with Hamas would mean future October 7s and worse. Ceasefire would begin with hostage release.

    Yes, Israelis demonstrate against Netanyahu. We have the right to do that, including Arab and Muslim Israelis. There are no more Jews in majority Muslim nations, not by choice. People in majority Muslim countries who protest against their government get thrown in dungeons, tortured, raped, and executed.

  29. A couple of weeks before the attack by Hamas two hundred fanatical Jewish people invaded the mosque on the temple mount and ransacked the place. The rioters started fires, broke things, and brought animals they tried to sacrifice in the mosque. In the West Bank Palestinians have been murdered by the Israeli Army for the crime of tending their own olive trees. Israeli settlers have never stopped creating new settlements on Palestinian land in violation of Israeli law.

    It is like the white people in 1800s America who (with the approval of many American government officials) ignored the Treaties of the American government with the Indians and took Indian land and Indian lives. The Israeli version of Manifest Destiny is just as horrific and wrong as the American version.

    Additionally, Netanyahu is not a dictator. He’s head of a coalition government which includes people who believe he is guilty of corruption and belongs in prison. Ceasefire with Hamas would just let them retrench and rebuild.

    Compare the number of deaths on October 7, compared to the population of Israel, made it more than ten times worse than 9/11 in the US, and that’s just deaths – it doesn’t count gang rapes, killing children in front of parents, cooking babies to death, hostages and more. How would the US react if all that happened on 9/11 and let’s say 50,000 Americans were killed that day?

    We know how the US government reacted to what actually happened on 9/11, which was horrific but much less so than 10/7 in terms of population.

  32. Sabra: I live in an appointment complex with 14 buildings and a total of 186 units. If my friends and I go to a nearby neighborhood and murder several people then kidnap and rape them the police should follow me to my apartment and do what is necessary to arrest me and my gang and free my hostages. My apartment building has 4 units so it would be understandable if the police had to remove the people living in the 3 units around me to get to me. What would be unreasonable is if the police demolished all the buildings in my apartment complex of 14 buildings killing many innocent people and making the rest homeless. That is what Netanyahu is doing in Gaza.

    Not every Palestinian is Hamas, but Netanyahu is doing a good job recruiting new Hamas members who otherwise would have never considered the idea.

  33. There’s no rational comparison of manifest destiny and the “Israeli version,” whatever that is. Arab and Muslim Israelis vote in elections, serve in government and the military, and are a legally equal minority with all the civil rights of other Israelis (they are a little over 20% of our population).

    Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza, who choose not to be part of Israel, have a lot less rights than Israelis. But not due to Israel, but rather to the Palestinian Authority and Hamas dictatorships they live under, just like the dictatorships throughout the Muslim world.

    In fact, Arab and Muslim Israelis have more rights than Arabs and Muslims in any country where they are a majority.

    It’s not even close to anything like the actual genocide of Native Americans in the 19th century. A far more valid comparison to that would be the treatment of Jews in Europe, Asia and Africa, particularly in the 20th century. Israel being a country is the result of that, not the cause. Israel has to do what it must to survive, because quite obviously the world is full of people for whom the holocaust and Oct 7 are just unfinished business.

  35. Your building analogy is faulty because Gaza is not an apartment complex. Israel is doing exactly what you say the police should do. There is no less violent way to get to Hamas, who use their own civilians as human shields in every way possible.

    There’s plenty of room to disagree about the conduct of the war. But the fact that Israel defending itself is the cause that has more Americans protesting – while their own citizens are among the hostages – is crazy and solely due to hatred of Jews.

  47. Tribal monarchs and oligarchs have been ubiquitous throughout the world and history. Tyranny in the middle East persists to this day, ironically except in Israel, but it’s not like there’s a shortage of it in other parts of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Europe has certainly seen its share, and still does in its Eastern parts.

    Today’s mideast politics is significantly more complex than Arab vs Jew. To take one obvious example, the war in Syria is not about Jews at all, since there are no longer any Jews in Syria. Likewise, in Yemen. Why aren’t Americans out in the streets protesting about wars in Syria and Yemen, any of the wars in Africa, etc, etc?

    Much of the conflict in the middle east is due to Iran, which is of course predominantly Persian, not Arab. However, they have many client Arab militias. But it’s not like there’s any shortage of Arab on Arab violence and oppression even not counting Persian interference.

    Arabs have done a lot worse to other Arabs than Jews have ever even come close to doing to Arabs, and still do. They just don’t complain about it nearly as much to non Arabs.

  49. The word genocide should not be abused in a grotesque manner. It means killing off an ethnicity.

    Examples:

    Turkey attempted genocide against Armenian people over a hundred years ago, and succeeds in killing millions.

    Germany attempted genocide of Jews and Roma (“gypsies,” which is a slur) in the 1940s and succeeded in killing millions of people.

    Millions of native Americans and Australians were killed during European colonization.

    Over half a million Tutsis were killed by Hutus in Rwanda in the 1990s

    You get the idea.

    There are millions of Palestinian living in the West Bank and Gaza. If Israel intended genocide, it has the means. It’s true that an estimated 30,000 people have died during the current war against Hamas terror. This is not genocide. No one is intentionally trying to wipe out the millions of Palestinians. On the contrary, Israel drops leaflets telling civilians to get out of bombing targets.

    The reason there are as many civilians dying in Gaza as there are is because Hamas intentionally uses them as human shields. They intentionally borrow in tunnels directly below heavily occupied urban neighborhoods and make their headquarters in or under hospitals to INCREASE civilian deaths among their OWN population – strictly for propaganda value.

    30,000 civilian deaths is not a large number in a war. The Syrian civil war, for example, has seen orders of magnitude more. You can list wars with more civilian deaths all day.

    To claim that there’s a genocide in the West Bank is even more absurd. The population of the West Bank is actually growing at a rate faster than Israel’s. The same was true in Gaza before the Hamas terror attacks on 10/7 and Israel’s response, which has again been much more measured than America’s response to 9/11, an event that killed less than a tenth as many Americans proportional to population and did not result in an ongoing hostage crisis. What kind of genocide sees population growth of the target group at a higher rate than the perpetrators during the genocide?

    Real genocide of Palestinians is an idea with infinitesimal support among Israelis, but actual genocide of Jews – which is exactly what Palestine free from the river to the sea means – is a very popular opinion among Palestinians. If they could, they would. If Israel wanted to genocide Palestinians, we could. We have no such desire. We would love to live and let live in peace. They want us dead. There are exceptions, of course, on both sides.

  50. Speaking of ugly things Arabs do to each other, and to Jews:

    In 1948, when Israel won its independence from the UK, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians voluntarily fled what became Israel. At the same time, even larger numbers of Jews, including my grandparents, were involuntarily kicked out of every single country ruled by Arabs and Muslims in the world.

    The United Nations proposed a partition state for Israel / Palestine – the original two state solution. Despite what is now Jordan being the Palestinian part intended under British rule, Israel accepted this plan, which left all of Jerusalem in Palestinian hands. The only reason a two state solution didn’t happen was that every neighboring country attacked Israel at that point, because nothing short of genocide of Jews would be good enough for them. That’s how we got the 1948 borders – Israel without the West Bank and Gaza.

    They did not content themselves with this and attacked from all sides again in 1956, 1967 and 1973. In between, Israelis had to contend with nonstop rocket shelling. 1967 is how we got the West Bank and Gaza, then Golan Heights and the Sinai, which we gave back to Egypt in peacetime – something no other country does.

    Meanwhile, as a result of Palestinians voluntarily fleeing in 1948, they have been living in squalid refugee camps around the Arab world. This is solely due to their fellow Arabs caring far more about the propaganda value of these horrible places than about the people forced to live in them. Arab governments have far more than enough resources to give these people a decent place to live and normal job opportunities. They prefer to use them as propaganda fodder.

    As a result of 1967, Israel also has squalid places where Palestinians live. They live better there than in Arab countries, but they still suck. Israel would and could give them much better living conditions, except every effort to do so has been combatted by intransigent resistance by the Palestinians themselves, who want to be our enemy instead. We’d rather be friends if they let us.

    Israeli Palestinians who did not flee and live within 1948 borders don’t live in squalor. They have the highest standard of living and most civil rights and liberties of any Arabs in the middle east today. They’re over 20 percent of our population. They hold seats in parliament.

    Jews in countries ruled by Arabs? Had to go to Israel, like it or not. We’re half of the Israeli Jewish population. For this, we are “European colonizers”. In reality, we were born in Israel and don’t even have any ancestors who ever lived in Europe.

    So why do so many Americans, especially on your political left, believe Jews are trying to genocide Palestinians?

    It’s because Stalin calculated, after a brief hesitation, that there are more Arabs than Jews in the world, so the USSR took up the Palestinian cause, along with its communist client states and the entire Muslim world. The noncommunist left followed suit, even though Israel is and always has been much more liberal than any Muslim led nation, by far.

    And that’s how we get to today’s absurd situation of American idiots marching on behalf of the Hamas cause. Including American Jews, right alongside people who openly espouse death to Jews, Israel, and America. They stand with the actual proponents of genocide. Against themselves. Chant their slogans and wave their flags. They go to jail for their foul genocidal cause. Like Dr. Stein. How unbelievably stupid can educated people be?

    There are, of course, Israelis who do favor an actual apartheid or genocide against Palestinians. Their numbers are growing, but still tiny. They are sick, demented people and I pray to G-d they never come to power in our country. Presently they are about as much of a political power in our country as costume wearing Nazis are in yours.

    I’m an Israeli Jew. I was born in Israel. My parents were born in Israel. Their parents were born in Muslim run countries and were kicked out, like all Jews in all Muslim run countries, in 1948, for something they didn’t do. About half of Israeli Jews became Israeli Jews because this happened to our ancestors (or those who are still alive).

    The thing they didn’t do which caused them to be kicked out of their countries was win independence for Israel in 1948, from the UK, much like the US did in the 1770s and 80s. It’s true that the German led holocaust of European Jews contributed to our war of independence. That’s not our fault. It’s not your fault either.

    Now, Israel exists, like every other country. We have the right to defend ourselves against terrorism, every bit as much as the US or any other country. What your country does about that is your business. We have freedom of expression in Israel, as you do in the US, unlike any country run by Muslims. So, I’m expressing my opinion.

  76. Ironically, there is one and only one-way Palestinians could actually get exactly what they want, Palestine free of Jews from the river to the sea. It will sound deceptively easy, but I’m not a traitor to Israel for posting it, since there is absolutely zero chance Palestinians will go this route, even as a strategic maneuver.

    All they would have to do is ask for Judea and Samaria (west bank of the Jordan River) and Gaza to be annexed as part of Israel, which would make them eligible to vote in our elections.

    Right now, Israeli Arabs are a little over 20% of our population. With the addition of the Arabs in the west bank and Gaza they could outvote us, and then do what they want – turn Israel into Palestine and push us into the Mediterranean sea.

    Israelis are committed to being both a Jewish and democratic nation to the core of our being. Such a proposal would put the two at odds. The Palestinians wouldn’t even have to kill us – we would argue ourselves to death . Self genocide!

    Zionism just means Israel has a right to exist. Nothing more or less. Palestinians who left Israel in 1948 did so willingly,nobody kicked them out. They listened to Palestinian leaders who lied about what would happen to them if they stayed.

    Some Palestinians didn’t listen to them and stayed. They now enjoy the most civil rights and liberties and best standard of living of Arabs anywhere in the middle east, vote in our elections, sit in our parliament etc.

    On the other hand, Jews throughout the rest of the middle east did get kicked out and had to go to Israel. That included all four of my grandparents and about half of us Israeli Jews got to be Israeli Jews that way.

  95. Well, to be fair, I guess it depends on what you mean by Semitic. If you take all descendants of Noah’s son Shem to be Semitic, then I guess all Ishmaelites (including Arabs) are also Semites. But traditionally Semitic is used to indicate peoples who spoke and wrote Hebrew or a descended language (even Amharic and Ge’ez are Hebrew-descended, meaning that you could argue at least some Ethiopians are Semitic).
    Arabic is not a Semitic, i.e. Hebrew-descended language; hence Arabs are not traditionally referred to as a semitic people.
