Illinois Governor Still Hasn’t Signed Bill Moving Petition Deadline from June to May

On June 6, the Illinois legislature passed HB 4488, which moves the petition deadline for independent candidates,, and the nominees of unqualified parties, from June to May.  As of June 25, Governor J. B. Pritzker still hasn’t acted on the bill.

Because the petition deadline was yesterday, that means the bill can’t take effect this year, even though it is worded to take effect immediately.

Illinois Governor Still Hasn’t Signed Bill Moving Petition Deadline from June to May — 22 Comments

  1. Whether he meant to or not (probably the latter), Gov. Pritzker just did a good thing for what remains of free and fair elections in this country by delaying his signing of this bill. The system is already rigged against minor party and Independent candidates as it is, the last thing we all needed was a retroactive change of the petition deadline.

  2. Who was killed for how they voted? I know a lot of people have been killed because of how people voted in secret with no accountability and voting is political power. Should politicians be allowed to secret vote too? If not, why should electing those politicians or voting on initiatives be different ???

Politicians actually do get killed based in how they vote sometimes .
.rarely! But it happens. People? I don’t see that happening.
